  • The CIRCLE Care Home Guide

    Open Access•Jolie R Keemink, John Hammond et al.•ARTICLE•Health Expectations•2025

BACKGROUND: Many older LGBTQ+ people still face discrimination in care home settings, and many care home staff do not have the knowledge required to provide LGBTQ+ inclusive care. Despite the availability of valuable resources on LGBTQ+ inclusion, its widespread use in social care practice in the United Kingdom is lacking. To address this issue, the current study presents a novel resource on LGBTQ+ inclusion co-designed by older LGBTQ+ people, ca…

  • Recruitment and Retention of Social Workers as Research Participants

    Open Access•Jolie R Keemink, Willem Stander et al.•ARTICLE•Social Work Research•2025•References: 2

Social work research in the UK has significant challenges in building research capacity due to a lack of funding, austerity policies, and the quality of research training within social work degrees. As a result, the workforce has limited understanding of the value and relevance of research to practice. Indeed, previous studies report a substantial lack of social workers as research participants. Although healthcare research includes a wealth of l…

  • Effectiveness of an LGBTQ+ E-Learning Module for Social Workers

Open Access•Jörg Schaub, Jolie R Keemink et al.•ARTICLE•Research on Social Work Practice•2023•Cited by: 1•References: 3

Purpose: To evaluate the effectiveness of an e-learning training module for improving children's social workers’ knowledge of, and attitudes toward, LGBTQ+ young people. Methods: A pragmatic randomized, CONSORT-compliant controlled trial to compare an intervention group ( N = 304) with a business-as-usual comparison group ( N = 310). After attrition, the analysis included 188 (intervention) and 278 (comparison) participants. The main outcome meas…

  • Reflections on the Use of Synchronous Online Focus Groups in Social Care Research

    Open Access•Jolie R Keemink, Rebecca J Sharp et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2022•Cited by: 7•References: 53

Focus groups are an extensively employed research method for the collection of qualitative data. Recent developments in teleconferencing platforms have produced a substantial increase in online research, including online focus groups. The current study is the first to discuss methodological reflections on the conduct of online focus groups in adult social care research. Previously reported research on the use of online focus groups in healthcare …

  • Infants scan static and dynamic facial expressions differently

    Open Access•Jonathan E Prunty, Jolie R Keemink et al.•ARTICLE•Infancy•2021

Despite being inherently dynamic phenomena, much of our understanding of how infants attend and scan facial expressions is based on static face stimuli. Here we investigate how six‐, nine‐, and twelve‐month infants allocate their visual attention toward dynamic‐interactive videos of the six basic emotional expressions, and compare their responses with static images of the same stimuli. We find infants show clear differences in how they attend and…

  • Infants’ responses to interactive gaze-contingent faces in a novel and naturalistic eye-tracking paradigm

    Jolie R Keemink, Maryam J Keshavarzi-Pour et al.•ARTICLE•Developmental Psychology•2019•References: 4

Face scanning is an important skill that takes place in a highly interactive context embedded within social interaction. However, previous research has studied face scanning using noninteractive stimuli. We aimed to study face scanning and social interaction in infancy in a more ecologically valid way by providing infants with a naturalistic and socially engaging experience. We developed a novel gaze-contingent eye-tracking paradigm in which infa…
