Does providing everyone with free-of-charge organised exercise opportunities work in public health
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Population-level initiatives of free-of-charge organised exercise have been implemented to encourage residents to take up regular physical activity. However, there exists a paucity of evidence on the ability of these interventions to attract and engage residents, especially targeted subgroups. Seeking to contribute to this evidence base, we evaluated a proportionate universal programme providing free exercise sessions, Lee…
Assessing the comparative feasibility, acceptability and equivalence of videoconference interviews and face-to-face interviews using the time trade-off technique
Taking a local government perspective for economic evaluation of a population-level programme to promote exercise
Making Public Involvement in Research More Inclusive of People With Complex Speech and Motor Disorders
In this study, we aimed to identify processes that enabled the involvement of a person with complex speech and motor disorders and the parent of a young person with these disorders as co-researchers in a U.K. research project. Semi-structured individual and focus group interviews explored participants' experiences and perceptions of public involvement (PI). Sixteen participants were recruited, with representation from (a) the interdisciplinary pr…
Modelling the impact of physical activity on public health
Evidence that an intervention weakens the relationship between adolescent electronic cigarette use and tobacco smoking
This is one of the first studies to show that e-cigarette use was robustly associated with measures of smoking over 24 months and the first to show an intervention to attenuate the relationship. Further research with a broader age range of adolescents is required
Exploring self-report and proxy-report quality-of-life measures for people living with dementia in care homes
There are large differences in how QoL is rated by people living with dementia, their relatives and care staff. These inconsistencies need to be considered when selecting measures and reporters within dementia research
Do electronic cigarettes increase cigarette smoking in UK adolescents? Evidence from a 12-month prospective study
This is the first study to report prospective relationships between ever use of e-cigarettes and initiation and escalation of cigarette use among UK adolescents. Ever use of e-cigarettes was robustly associated with initiation but more modestly related to escalation of cigarette use. Further research with longer follow-up in a broader age range of adolescents is required
