Archaeological excavations conducted at the site between 2021 and 2024 fully uncovered the remains of a Late Antique church (N1

Using Reflectance Transformation Imaging (RTI) to document ancient amphora stamps from Tanais, Russia. Reflections on first approach to their digitalisation
The presented paper discusses the use of Reflectance Transformation Imaging (RTI) in the process of digitalisation of stamps on Greek amphorae. The 2019 season of Polish excavations at ancient Tanais, Russia yielded twenty eight stamps. Authors of this paper documented each stamp by means of traditional photographic documentation, drawing, stamp rubbing and two RTI models. The aim of this paper is to discuss the possible applications of RTI techn…
Depopulation and devastation: Using GIS for tracing changes in the archaeological landscape of Kharaib al‐Dasht, a Late Islamic fishing village (Kuwait)
This article presents a case study of the remains of Kharaib al‐Dasht (Kuwait), a Late Islamic fishing village. Collaboration between archaeologists from Kuwait and Poland of the Kuwaiti–Polish Archaeological Mission led to a long‐term research project of this archaeological site. In this contribution we are presenting the results of a geographic information system (GIS)‐structured survey. Different archaeological and geographical methods used in…
Reconstructing the phases of the fortifications of the legionary fortress at Novae ( Moesia Inferior )
Since 1960, archaeological research in the area of the legionary base at Novae (fig. 1) has yielded many traces of its defensive system. 1 Although the results were published regularly in field reports, 2 information on the fortifications remained inadequate due to the methodologies and measuring equipment used in those days. Even with the new discoveries made in the 1980s and 1990s, most notably the earth-and-timber defences, many crucial issues…
A childless urban renaissance? Age-selective patterns of population change in North American and German Metropolitan areas
Since the 1980s and 1990s, many metropolitan areas in North America and Europe have registered population growth within the urban core, driven primarily by younger, better-educated and higher-income people – a phenomenon often referred to as ‘urban renaissance’ or ‘re-urbanization’. To date, the research on this topic has primarily focused on the socio-spatial implications, especially with the type and intensity of displacement pressures affectin…
Demographic Patterns of Reurbanisation and Housing in Metropolitan Regions in the US and Germany
After decades of decline, first signs of a central and inner city revitalisation were noticed towards the end of the 1980s in North American metropolitan areas. The repopulation and redevelopment of the metropolitan cores - often referred to as 'reurbanisation', 'urban renaissance' or 'back-to-the-city-movement' - has accelerated since then and is today one of the outstanding characteristics of recent urban development in the US. In Western and C…
Prospects for West German Post-War Single-Family Home NeighbourhoodsRevitalising Housing Stocks as a New Policy Field for Suburban and Rural Municipalities
The single-family home neighbourhoods that were built in West Germany in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s will be increasingly affected by future socio-demographic changes. Today, the above-average length of occupancy by owners and the rise in life expectancy are leading to the increased over-ageing of the populations in these residential areas. The generational change means that a constantly growing number of these homes are being put up for sale and …
