The patterns of political career movements of Nigerian cabinet ministers, 1999–2017
This article examines the patterns of political career movements in the Nigerian federal system using the sample of federal cabinet ministers from 1999 to 2017. The result shows that most Nigerian ministers are politically inexperienced, with a large proportion of party-affiliated technocrats among them. Fixing Nigerian elections: Why electoral reforms are not working
This article examines the reasons for the failure of electoral reform in Nigeria. It argues that two key issues explain that failure, namely a wrong conception of the reform programme and the overbearing self-interest of the reformers. To make electoral reforms more effective, the article suggests a shift of emphasis from institutional to state reform. This will, argues the author, involve a change in the focus, target and drivers of reforms

Prior to the 2015 Nigerian general elections, there were concerns that the fierce political contest would lead to electoral violence in the country. This article analyses the ways in which African countries are grappling with the problem of electoral violence. Governing ‘Ethnicised’ Public Sphere: Insights from Nigeria
This article explores the way in which ethnically diverse societies govern their public sphere. It shows that the public sphere in multiethnic societies is an arena of conflict where cultural and ideological contest or negotiation among a variety of groups takes place.
