  • The globalization of everything: Ritzer's influence on Spanish sociology

    Open Access•Gaspar Brändle, Miguel Ángel Sánchez-García•ARTICLE•Thesis Eleven•2025•References: 1

The work of Professor George Ritzer had an early impact on Spanish academia. In this article we analyse Ritzer's reception in Spanish sociology. We identify two modalities of reception, one as a ‘metatheorist of sociology’, around his manuals of sociological theory, and the other as a ‘theorist of social reality’, focusing mainly on consumption. We argue that Ritzer's incorporation into the Spanish sociological field, while important, leaves room…

This research aims to know the opinions and attitudes of the Spanish population towards hate speech through a survey of 1,022 persons of both sexes and over 16 years of age. The results show a high awareness of hate speech: participants could identify these messages, assess their different intensities of severity, and understand the harm it causes. This high awareness may be because almost half of the sample has felt alluded to by these types of …

Formed around the journal Annales d'histoire économique et sociale , which was founded by Lucien Febvre and Marc Bloch in 1929, the Annales School attempted to develop a “total history” as a critique of existing historical methodology focused on events and politics. The influence of the Annales School on social theory was remarkable. The School has continued through four generations, each characterized by diverse intellectual turns and headed by …

  • The moderating role of aggressiveness in response to campaigns and interventions promoting anti‐violence attitudes

    Open Access•Miguel Ángel Martín-Cárdaba, Miguel A M Cárdaba et al.•ARTICLE•Aggressive Behavior•2016•Cited by: 1•References: 57

This research indicates that a critical factor for understanding the success or failure of anti-violence campaigns is the aggressiveness of the target audience. We propose that person and situation interact in predicting post-intervention attitudes toward violence, fighting expectations, and intentions to learn how to use real guns. Across two studies conducted in different countries and with different age populations, we found that anti-violence…
