  • Land Use and Topographical Factors Controlling Collapsed Pipes and Piping‐Related Features Development in the Landscapes of Thick Loess Covers From Eastern Poland

Open Access•Renata Kołodyńska‐Gawrysiak, Jaroslaw Rodzik et al.•ARTICLE•Land Degradation and Development•2026

Piping is subsurface water erosion that resulted in the formation of collapsed pipes and piping‐related features in the landscape. Although it is an important and globally widespread land degradation process it is still poorly understood and data is scarce. Loess landscapes with varied topography and long‐term agricultural use of silty soils are particularly susceptible to water surface and subsurface (piping) erosion, resulting in gully network …

  • Czermno / Cherven’

    Open Access•Tomasz Dzieńkowski, Maciej Trzeciecki et al.•ARTICLE•Sprawozdania Archeologiczne•2025•References: 11

The article discusses the results of the latest interdisciplinary studies on Site 2, ‘Zameczek’, a stronghold complex in Czermno (historical Cherven’). The fieldwork completed in 2022-2023 focused on Site 2 and included noninvasive investigations (GPR and LiDAR prospection), sondage excavation, laboratory analysis and conservation of archaeological finds, absolute dating, and desktop studies. The research objectives and questions formulated when …

  • Holocene multi-proxy environmental reconstruction of a tundra lake

    Open Access•Radosław Dobrowolski, Piotr Zagórski et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2025•Cited by: 1•References: 59

Multi-proxy analyses of two twin sediment cores from the Reindeer Lake were performed to reconstruct the Holocene environmental conditions in this eastern branch of the Bellsund region (Western Spitsbergen). A continuous Holocene lacustrine sediment sequence record was documented, with the dominance of a single algal species, Pediastrum orientale . The basal sediment was AMS 14 C-dated between 8.4 and 8.2 ka cal BP. The results of our study, indi…

  • A New Paraglacial Typology of High Arctic Coastal Systems

Kamila Jarosz, Piotr Zagórski et al.•ARTICLE•Annals of the American…•2022•Cited by: 1•References: 59

Progressing climate changes and declining ice cover (glacial) are accompanied by an increase in the length of paraglacial coasts. Therefore, issues related to the development and transformation of such areas attract increasing interest. No complex classification of paraglacial coasts has been presented so far. The main aim of this study was the determination of the mutual relations and evolution of paraglacial coasts in a systemic approach (parag…

  • Relationship between the level of human development and institutional quality

    Open Access•Olena Stryzhak, Magdalena et al.•ARTICLE•Economics & Sociology•2022

Implementation of the sustainable socio-economic development goals is an important task for any country, which is why researchers pay attention to the analysis of factors that influence development. Human development is one of the components of development in a wide context. The level of human development largely depends on the quality of the institutional environment in a society. The article examines the relationship between the human developme…

  • Digging the history. Absolute chronology of the settlement complex at Czermno-Cherven’ (eastern Poland). Research status and perspectives

Open Access•Tomasz Dzieńkowski, Marcin Wołoszyn et al.•ARTICLE•Sprawozdania Archeologiczne•2020

The article discusses the results of the latest interdisciplinary research of Czermno stronghold and its immediate surroundings. The site is mentioned in chroniclers’ entries referring to the stronghold Cherven’ (Tale of Bygone Years, first mention under the year 981) and the so-called Cherven’ Towns. Given the scarcity of written records regarding the history of today’s Eastern Poland, Ukraine, and Belarus in the 10th and 11th centuries, recent …

  • Physico-geographical mesoregions of Poland

Open Access•Jerzy Solon, Jan Borzyszkowski et al.•ARTICLE•Geographia Polonica•2018

The programme of identification, cataloguing and evaluation of Polish landscapes, part of the implementation of the European Landscape Convention, has caused an increase in interest in physico-geographical regionalisation over recent years. The commonly accepted regionalisation of Poland developed by J. Kondracki (Kondracki & Richling 1994) is sufficient for work at an overview scale (e.g. 1:500,000), whereas its spatial accuracy is too low to ma…

  • Environmental conditions of settlement in the vicinity of the mediaeval capital of the Cherven Towns (Czermno site, Hrubieszów Basin, Eastern Poland)
