  • Suicide Risk Factors in High School Students

Open Access•Guillermo Gómez Delgado, Antonio Ponce Rojo et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2024

In Mexico, suicide has become an important public health problem, representing the third leading cause of death in the adolescent population. Suicidal behavior in adolescents is associated with the interaction of complex relationships between personal, interpersonal, and sociocultural factors. Through a quantitative, descriptive, and correlational cross-sectional study, the present study aimed to analyze the prevalence and risk factors associated…

  • Age‐related tooth wear in African rainforest hunter‐gatherers

    Open Access•A Romero, Fernando V Ramirez‐rozzi et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•2019•Cited by: 1•References: 36

OBJECTIVES: Central African small-scale foragers subsist primarily on hunting game activities and wild plant-food gathering. Starch-rich tubers are underground storage organs (USOs) and staple food resources in savanna and tropical rainforests. However, little is known about the effect of USO consumption on tooth wear development in living hunter-gatherers. We report age- and sex-dependent tooth wear rates in forest-dwelling Baka Pygmies with wel…

  • Dental size variability in Central African Pygmy hunter‐gatherers and Bantu‐speaking farmers

    Open Access•A Romero, Fernando V Ramirez‐rozzi et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•2018•Cited by: 4•References: 41

OBJECTIVES: Odontometric studies of African populations show high within-group variation in tooth size. Overall, North Africans exhibit smaller dimensions than groups from eastern and southern sub-Saharan regions, but no previous studies have analyzed the full dental metrics among extant African Pygmy hunter-gatherers and Bantu-speaking farmers. Furthermore, the population variability in tooth crown sizes from equatorial rainforest regions remain…

  • Residential Mobility and Dental Decoration in Early Medieval Spain

    Open Access•Eleanna Prevedorou, M Díaz‐zorita Bonilla et al.•ARTICLE•Dental Anthropology Journal•2018•Cited by: 11•References: 4

Excavations at Plaza del Castillo in Pamplona (northern Spain) revealed a large Islamic necropolis dating to the eighth century A.D., including the skeleton of an adult female showing intentional dental modification (PLA-159). While the practice of dental decoration was virtually absent in Medieval Spain, it is common in Africa and suggests that this individual was born in Africa and brought to Spain later in life. The historically documented occ…

  • Reforma del sector de la seguridad

Open Access•A Romero, Alicia Cebada Romero et al.•ARTICLE•EUNOMÍA Revista en Cultura de la…•2014

Security Sector Reform is introduced here as an area related to the democratization of the security sector as well as to the enhancement of the rule of law. A reference to the European Union’s approach to the security sector is provided as well. It will be seen that security sector reform has become a priority for the European Union within its external action and more precisely with regard to crisis management and post-conflict stabilization

  • Perimortem trauma in the Atacama Desert and social violence during the late Formative period (2500-1700 years BP)

    Open Access•G Standen, V G Standen et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2010•Cited by: 5•References: 20

This paper describes a case of a mass grave containing three naturally mummified adults with multiple traumas to the skeletal and soft tissues, buried in an isolated and informal grave in one of the valleys that traverses the Atacama Desert, north of Chile. These traumas do not appear to be indicative of post-depositional alterations. Instead, we hypothesise that the observed marks correspond to lethal perimortem trauma, the result of acts of ext…
