  • Egypt's Economic Potential (RLE Egypt)

    Roberto Aliboni•BOOK•Egypt's Economic Potential (RLE…•2013

Over the last ten years the Egyptian economy has undergone a major transformation which has led to greater decentralisation and international competition. This transformation, along with changing circumstances in the surrounding Arab areas and the end of hostilities with Israel, has given a boost to the Egyptian economy. Without underestimating the obstacles that still stand in the way of sustained economic growth and development, this book fores…

  • The International Dimension of the Arab Spring

    Roberto Aliboni•ARTICLE•The International Spectator•2011

The Arab spring is a transition away from the long alliance between the West and the moderate Arab states, as well as a transition on the part of these states from being more or less passive clients of the US and the West to more or less vibrant democracies with an assertive agenda in the region. As elections take place, they will generate more democratically and Islamist-based governments, certainly more sensitive than previous ones to nationali…

  • Democracy in the Arab countries and the West

    Roberto Aliboni, Laura Guazzone•ARTICLE•Mediterranean Politics•2004•Cited by: 1

To bring about security, domestic democratization must be linked to a set of international conditions, in particular respect for international law, conflict resolution, soun…

    Roberto Aliboni, Ettore Greco•ARTICLE•International Affairs•1996•Cited by: 5

The authors characterize current Italian thinking about the course of the country's foreign policy in terms of a division between tendencies towards re-nationalizing foreign policy and internationalism. Locating each of these broad positions in differing views of the stance taken by Italy in the European and wider international arenas since the Second World War, and of the challenges and opportunities opened up by the end of the Cold War, they il…
