Supervisory support in Slovenian and Dutch organizations: A Contextualizing Approach
This paper builds on the influential work of Suzan Lewis examining how employees\\xe2\\x80\\x99 work\\xe2\\x80\\x93life experiences are shaped by different layers of context. Our approach is therefore a comparative one using data from four organizational contexts in two countries, the Netherlands and Slovenia. Exploring the linkage between the home domain and absence from work: Health, motivation, or both
The aim of this study was twofold. First, we examined depleting and enriching effects of employees' home domain (home demands and quality time spent at home) on unscheduled absence from work. Second, we tested the assumption of the medical and withdrawal models that absence duration and frequency are uniquely predicted by respectively health condition and job motivation. We used longitudinal, different‐source data from 1014 employees. The results…

Population Growth in Java in the 19th Century: A New Interpretation
In demographic literature Java occupies a special position. It is the island where in the nineteenth century a 'population explosion' occurred. In other developing countries this took place in the twentieth century. Following the official figures Java had a population size of about 4.5 million in 1815 (Raffles's Census) and 28.5 million in 1900. The result is an extraordinary rate of growth of 2.2% per year.
