    This article reviews current hypotheses and investigations concerning helping behavior. Two areas of helping behavior are focussed upon: donation and rescue responses. Studies concerning the impact of the social responsibility norm, experimenter demand characteristics, and proprieties are reviewed. Additionally, studies concerned with the subject variables associated with aiding activity are discussed

  • Failure to Verbally Condition Socially Desirable Speech

    The effectiveness of verbal reinforcements in increasing the emission of more socially desirable self-descriptive statements was not demonstrated. Utilizing 42 psychiatric patients as Ss, an attractive young female E, and the reinforcer “hm-hm,” no significant differences were found on the dependent variable between those Ss receiving and those not receiving the reinforcement
