Water, sanitation, and hygiene access among people who inject drugs in Tijuana and San Diego in 2020–2021: A cross-sectional study
WASH access among PWID in the Tijuana-San Diego metropolitan area was low by international standards and lower than the national averages in both countries. Homelessness was significantly associated with WASH insecurity in this population. Concentrated efforts are needed to guarantee continuously available WASH services for PWID-especially those who are unsheltered
Water, sanitation and hygiene insecurity predict abscess incidence among people who inject drugs in a binational US–Mexico metropolitan area: A longitudinal cohort study
PWID in the Tijuana-San Diego metropolitan area reported facing high rates of insecurity accessing WASH services. Abscess incidence was higher (four to nine times) than observed rate among PWID cohorts in other settings. Access to continuously available toilet facilities, bathing infrastructure, and safe water sources for preparing drugs for injection could prevent abscesses among PWID. Accessible WASH infrastructure should be ensured among PWID …

Homelessness is a persistent problem in the United States in general and in Southern California especially. While progress has been made in reducing the number of people experiencing homelessness in the United States from 2007 (647,000) to 2019 (567,000), it remains an entrenched problem. The purpose of this paper is to outline a novel, interdisciplinary academic-practice partnership model to address homelessness. Where singular disciplinary appr…
Promoting Community Gardening to Low-Income Urban Participants in the Women, Infants and Children Programme (Wic) in New Mexico
This study explores the effectiveness of methods used by nutrition educators in promoting the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) community garden project in Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA. A survey of 257 clients from five clinics found that less than 30% of clients have been exposed to the project and caseload was unrelated to the methods used to promote the project. However, clients exposed to any method of promotion were more likely to garden tha…
