    The contact theory of racial integration is examined in this survey of the behaviors and attitudes of secondary school students and student-athletes. Self-report questionnaires were completed by 1,082 subjects in the urban upstate New York area.     Based upon a sample of the three NCAA basketball divisions and information gathered from the NBA it is apparent that patterns of leadership and racial discrimination may be accounted for by the centrality hypothesis.   • Origins of the Connection of Physical Education and Athletics at the American University

    This paper analyzes the origins of the relationship between athletics, the American university and developing departments of physical education in the period 1890-1930.
