  • Restorative Justice in Education: A Content Analysis of US State Legislation From 2010 to 2020

Open Access•Jen Molloy, Ashley Trautman et al.•ARTICLE•Educational Policy•2024

This study sought to understand how state-level policies inform and promote the implementation of restorative justice in education (RJE). A content analysis of 60 laws revealed that definitions, structures, and supports varied greatly, causing us to question whether policies support a systematic implementation of RJE and how policies can prevent the misuse of RJE as an alternative system of punishment. We recommend that laws clearly define the pa…

  • Foraging with finesse: A hard‐fruit‐eating primate selects the weakest areas as bite sites

    Open Access•Adrian A Barnett, Bruna Bezerra et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•2016•References: 95

OBJECTIVES: Fruit husks are rarely uniformly hard, varying in penetrability via sulci and changes in thickness. We tested whether a hard-food specialist primate i) bites randomly on food fruit husk surfaces to access seeds, or ii) selects areas most easily penetrated by canines. We consider this would occur so as to minimize deployed mechanical force, energetic expenditure and risk of dental breakage when feeding. METHODS: A sulcus is the natural…

  • Baboon ( Papio anubis ) social complexity—a network approach

Open Access•Julia Lehmann, C Ro et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Primatology•2011

Although many studies have analyzed the causes and consequences of social relationships, few studies have explicitly assessed how measures of social relationships are affected by the choice of behaviors used to quantify them. The use of many behaviors to measure social relationships in primates has long been advocated, but it was analytically difficult to implement this framework into primatological work. However, recent advances in social networ…

  • Living on the edge: Life‐history of olive baboons at Gashaka‐Gumti National Park, Nigeria

Open Access•James P Higham, Ymke Warren et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Primatology•2009

Baboons are the most successful and ubiquitous African primates, renowned for their behavioral and reproductive flexibility, which enable them to inhabit a wide variety of habitat types. Owing to a number of long‐term field studies, comparative behavioral, developmental, demographic, and life‐history data are available from several populations, but study sites show a heavy bias toward South and East African savannahs, with little research in West…

  • Putin’s federal reforms and the consolidation of federalism in Russia: One Step Forward, Two Steps Back

    Open Access•C Ro, Celia Ross•ARTICLE•Communist and Post-Communist…•2003•Cited by: 5•References: 6

This paper provides a detailed analysis of Putin’s radical overhaul of the Russian federal system and its impact on federalism and democratisation. Whilst not all of Putin’s reforms have been implemented fully, the reorganisation of the Federation Council, his usurpation of unilateral powers to dismiss regional assemblies and chief executives, combined with his creation of seven federal districts, make a mockery of federalism. There are real worr…

  • Socioecology and the evolution of primate reproductive rates

Open Access•C Ro, Caroline Ross et al.•CHAPTER•Comparative Primate Socioecology•1999

Introduction A thought experiment: take two animals, one male and one female. Provide their offspring with unlimited food and allow them to breed. If animals die only of old age, how many animals will you have after 2 years, 5 years, 10 years, 20 years or 50 years? Figure 4.1 shows the results of this experiment using the intrinsic rate of population increase ( r m , see Table 4.1, p. 80, for a definition) for six primate species. It is clear fro…

  • Primate life histories

    Open Access•C Ro, Caroline Ross•ARTICLE•Evolutionary Anthropology Issues…•1998

An animal's life history can be summarized by key variables that account for its life course from conception to death. Biological parameters that are of interest relate to reproductive effort and developmental rates (e.g., gestation length, neonatal weight, prenatal and postnatal growth rates, weaning age, and weaning weight) and the rate of reproduction (e.g., age at first and last reproduction, interbirth interval, the number of offspring per l…

Open Access•C Ro, Caroline Ross•ARTICLE•American Journal of Primatology•1993

A take‐over and infanticide were observed in a South Indian population of Hanuman langurs ( Presbytis entellus ). A one‐male, bisexual troop of langurs (Troop B1) was attacked by a band of two adult males and one subadult male. During the take‐over, the resident male and one elderly female were driven from the troop. The youngest infant, about two months old, was fatally wounded by an attack from the dominant incoming male (S1). However, other yo…
