  • Longitudinal integrated clerkships: A hermeneutic literature review

Open Access•David Garne, John Mullan et al.•ARTICLE•Advances in Health Sciences…•2026

The longitudinal integrated clerkship (LIC) approach to medical education, offering students sustained, immersive clinical experiences, is in stark contrast with traditional block rotations. Although evidence shows that LICs are an effective way of educating medical students, much is still unknown on why or how this is so. This hermeneutic review of the literature aimed to produce a synthesis of the pedagogical understanding of LICs by addressing…

  • “There is a community of mind in it”: Quoting Shakespeare in the Eighteenth Century

    Open Access•John Mullan•ARTICLE•XVII-XVIII•2024

This piece argues that quoting from literary works written in English became a habit only in the second half of the eighteenth century. The acceptance and celebration of a vernacular canon of English Literature, with Shakespeare’s drama at its heart, gave rise to the art and pleasure of quoting Shakespeare. Shakespeare came to live in common usage through anthologies of ‘beauties’, and especially through the presence of his work in Johnson’s dict…

The results indicate that alcohol consumption is negatively related to QoL only in those with severe risk of AUD. Open Access•Robyn Gillespie, John Mullan et al.•ARTICLE•Health & Social Care in the…•2022•Cited by: 1•References: 4

Deprescribing aims to reduce polypharmacy and inappropriate medication use. Both General Practitioners (GPs) and older adults have expressed a willingness to consider deprescribing. However, deprescribing is often deferred in practice. The aim of this study was to identify factors which influence GP and older adult decisions about deprescribing in primary care. Semi-structured interviews were used in this qualitative study, conducted in a regiona…

For men with newly diagnosed prostate cancer the decisions about treatment options are complex and difficult. • Sharing administrative health data with private industry: A report on two citizens' juries

Open Access•Jackie Street, Belinda Fabrianesi et al.•ARTICLE•Health Expectations•2021

BACKGROUND: There is good evidence of both community support for sharing public sector administrative health data in the public interest and concern about data security, misuse and loss of control over health information, particularly if private sector organizations are the data recipients. To date, there is little research describing the perspectives of informed community members on private sector use of public health data and, particularly, on …

This study aimed to identify the enablers of and barriers to satisfactory RACF medical care by focusing on the general practitioner (GP) visit in the experience of residents, their family, r…

According Lord Bryon, Mr. Charles Lamb’s friend, Mr. Samuel Taylor Coleridge, is as little fitted for action as he, but on a different account. His person is of a good height, but as sluggish and solid as the other’s is light and fragile. He has, perhaps, suffered it to look old before its time, for want of exercise. Mr. Coleridge is fat, and begins to lament, in very delightful verses, that he is getting infirm. There is no old age in his verses…

Demographic trends suggest that the sustainability of the general practitioner (GP) Residential Aged Care Facility (RACF) workforce, worldwide and in Australia, is under threat, compromising the ongoing care of chronically ill RACF residents. It is therefore important to ascertain current GP attitudes towards this work, to better understand and hypothesise means of reversing this trend. To this end, during 2014 the views of 26 GPs and GP Registra…
