The parent ratings of traumatized children with or without PTSD
Two clinical and 2 structured clinical interviews were used to identify children with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), traumatized children without PTSD, and nontraumatized controls. Parents evaluated child conduct by marking the Conners' Parent Rating Scale-48 (CPRS-48; Conners, 1989). Data analysis indicated that the CPRS-48 Total scores and the Anxiety and Psychosomatic subscales scores of the PTSD group significantly exceeded the scores …

This investigation compared the adjustment of two groups of New York City preschool children 8 10months after September 11, 2001. One group was within 1 mile (1.61 km) of the World Trade Center andexposed to one or more traumatic events. The second group was 2 to 14 miles (3.28 22.54km) away andnot exposed to traumatic events. The history and prevalence of posttraumatic stress disorder with special reference to children and adolescents
The Concurrent Validity of the Mathematics Anxiety Rating Scale for Adolescents (Mars-A) in Relation to the Academic Achievement of Lebanese Students
The Mathematics Anxiety Rating Scale for Adolescents (MARS-A) was translated into Arabic and administered to five classes ( n= 133) of Lebanese junior and senior high school students. The scores of the students were correlated with their semester grades in physics, chemistry, and mathematics, as well as with their overall grade point average (GPA). As the correlations accounted for moderate portions of the shared variance between the MARS-A and t…
The Concurrent Validity of the Diagnostic Analysis of Reading Errors as a Predictor of the English Achievement of Lebanese Students
The Diagnostic Analysis of Reading Errors (DARE) was administered to 40 post secondary school Lebanese students who were enrolled in an intensive English language preparatory course as well as to 79 high school students who were enrolled in a private Lebanese school. The DARE subtest scores for members of the former group were correlated with their scores on the American University of Beirut's English Entrance Examination, and the DARE subtest sc…
The Validity of the Suinn Test Anxiety Behavior Scale as a Predictor of the Academic Achievement of Lebanese Students
The Suinn Test Anxiety Behavior Scale (STABS) (Suinn, 1969) was administered to 192 Lebanese high school students. Scores were correlated with their semester grades in selected courses. Although two coefficients reached the level of statistical significance, a relatively small amount of the variance was explained. It was indicated that the emphasis which the Lebanese business and educational communities have placed on academic achievement warrant…
The Validity of the Lorge Thorndike Nonverbal Battery as a Predictor of the Academic Achievement of International Students
Twenty-seven elementary school students from 12 countries sat for the Nonverbal Battery of the Lorge Thorndike Intelligence Test during their first semester at a private American overseas school. Their final grades in English, mathematics, science, and social science, as well as their GPAs were correlated with the Nonverbal IQ. Moderate correlations were observed in each instance. Although the sample was small, these results were considered usefu…
Effect of Reinforcement of Response on Internal Consistency of Selected Wisc-R Subtests
An experimental study of 120 educable mentally retarded subjects was undertaken to examine the differential effects of three types of reinforcers (verbal praise, token, and verbal neutral) and two levels of schedule of reinforcement (continuous and fixed ratio) on the Arithmetic, Picture Completion, and Block Design subtests from the WISC-R. Although the pattern of coefficients was similar for the two schedule conditions, there was a trend for th…
