David Winter, David Ross Winter•ARTICLE•Journal of Medieval History•2012

This article introduces the Liber exemplorum sub titulis redactorum of Master Wiger, provost of St Peter's Collegiate Church, Utrecht (afterwards, a convert to the Franciscan Order, fl. 1209–38). Wiger's collection, which was compiled at some point between c.1205 and 1228, is one of the earliest surviving representations of the genre of ‘example book’. It stands in a far more direct literary relationship with the encyclopaedic compendia produced …

Clients attending a London voluntary sector counselling centre completed assessments pre‐ and post‐psychodynamic counselling and at follow‐up. Clients were found to improve in terms of psychological well‐being, control and various other aspects of their lives, an…

  • Construction and constriction in agoraphobia

Open Access•David Winter, Kevin Gournay•ARTICLE•British Journal of Medical…•1987

A formulation of agoraphobia is presented in personal construct theory terms. It is hypothesized that the construing of agoraphobics and their spouses is characterized by low cognitive awareness of constructs concerning interpersonal conflict and lack of tenderness; by dilemmas in which the ability to go out implies possible infidelity; and by low self‐esteem in the agoraphobic and high self‐esteem in their spouse. Evidence in support of these hy…

The Conservative Government elected in Britain in 1979 wished to change the extent and pattern of government expenditure. We use econometric techniques to investigate whether it did so in the period up to 1984, concentrating attention on the welfare state. We also test the hypothesis that the observed changes favoured the middle classes. After discussing the channels by which the middle classes influence government policy, a model of government b…

The data are post-war annual time series for Czechoslovakia, the GDR, Hungary, and Poland. The estimation of these functions characterizing the demand side of the consumption goods market is a part of the empirical component of our research into macroeconomic equilibrium in CPEs. The supply side of the consumption goods mar…

  • Towards an Economic Model of Local Government Behaviour

    Julian Le Grand, David Winter•ARTICLE•Policy & Politics•1977•Cited by: 3

Newton and Sharpe in their contribution to this volume have drawn attention to the urgent need for developing a general theoretical framework in which future output research (in the area of British local government) can be undertaken. It is our intention in this paper to explore the possibility of rectifying this omission by the application of some theoretical constructs used by economists in the study of economic behaviour. More specifically, we…
