  • Tracing storminess variability through seabed sediments in Puck Bay, southern Baltic Sea

    Open Access•Małgorzata Witak, Witold Cieślikiewicz et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2025•References: 15

Storms have severe impacts on coastal communities and infrastructure. The southern Baltic Sea coast is particularly vulnerable to storm surges, as it predominantly features barrier-type coast, and extensive areas of coastal lowlands are situated within 1.5 m above sea level. Due to the short instrumental record, our knowledge of the complex issue of storminess is relatively limited. Therefore, it is very important to extend the timespan of storm …

  • Late Saalian climatic oscillations – revision of pollen record in Poland compared to other evidences

Open Access•Agnieszka Wacnik, Dorota Nalepka et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2016

  • Malacological and palynological evidence of the Lower Pleistocene cold phase at the Carpathian Foothills (Southern Poland)

Open Access•Ewa Stworzewicz, Wojciech Granoszewski et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2012

Early Pleistocene sediments bearing gastropod shells and pollen flora were found during coring at Jawornik (South Poland) at a depth interval of 54.30–39.00 m, beneath the oldest till of the Carpathians. Thirteen land-snail taxa identified in 55 samples of the core formed two molluscan assemblages. In the bottom part, typical cold-loving snails were found (e.g. Vallonia tenuilabris , Pupilla loessica , Vertigo genesii , Columella columella ), whe…

  • Extraction and AMS Radiocarbon Dating of Pollen from Lake Baikal Sediments

Open Access•Natalia Piotrowska, Andrzej Bluszcz et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2004•Cited by: 7•References: 13

This work focuses on the preparation and dating of sporomorph (pollen and spores) concentrates of high purity. Three sediment cores recovered from Lake Baikal within the EU-Project CONTINENT were subjected to palynological analyses and accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS) radiocarbon dating. Laboratory processing of concentrates was aimed at the removal of non-sporomorph organic matter by means of chemical treatment, micro-sieving, and heavy liqui…
