  • Social Evolution and Inclusive Fitness Theory

    Open Access•James A R Marshall•BOOK•Social Evolution and Inclusive…•2015

Social behavior has long puzzled evolutionary biologists, since the classical theory of natural selection maintains that individuals should not sacrifice their own fitness to affect that of others. This book argues that a theory first presented in 1963 by William D. Hamilton—inclusive fitness theory—provides the most fundamental and general explanation for the evolution and maintenance of social behaviors in the natural world. The book guides rea…

  • Engineering Principles and the Study of Prehistoric Structures

    Open Access•James A Marshall, James A R Marshall•ARTICLE•American Antiquity•1969•Cited by: 3

This paper explores the potential contribution of civil engineering theory to archaeology. Given certain basic data we can ask specific questions about prehistoric concepts of construction, design, measurement, etc. An example of a method of analysis of structures and geometrics is given utilizing the limited information from the Adena and Hopewell cultures. Conclusions are drawn as to what certain structures looked like, how they were built, and…
