  • Negative Affect Following Dating Application Use is Predicted by Social Anxiety Symptoms and Match Rate

    Open Access•Ariella P Lenton-Brym, Ariella P Lenton‐Brym et al.•ARTICLE•Cyberpsychology Behavior and…•2024

Social rejection is a common and unavoidable experience for users of dating apps. Research suggests that socially anxious individuals may be particularly likely to use dating apps to establish intimate relationships, given their preference for online (vs. face-to-face) communication. However, social anxiety (SA) symptoms are associated with heightened negative affect and decreased prosocial behavior following social rejection, suggesting that exp…

  • The role of veterans' PTSD symptoms in veteran couples' insomnia

    Open Access•Chandra E Khalifian, Madison K Titone et al.•ARTICLE•Family Process•2023

Insomnia contributes to individual mental and physical health and relationship well‐being. Veterans' PTSD symptoms are associated with their own insomnia. However, research has not explored whether and how veterans' PTSD symptoms are associated with their partners' insomnia. The present study examined the association between veterans' PTSD symptom severity and veterans' and partners' insomnia. Veterans ( n = 192) and their partners ( n = 192; tot…

  • Elucidating the Elements of Clinical Case Consultation in Cognitive Processing Therapy

    Open Access•Meredith S H Landy, Esztella Vezer et al.•ARTICLE•The Counseling Psychologist•2023•References: 25

Research shows the value of consultation following training in Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), a frontline psychotherapy for posttraumatic stress disorder; however, the elements of successful CPT consultation are not delineated. This study’s aim was to elucidate the elements of successful consultation in CPT. Participants ( N = 41) were mental health clinicians, including psychologists, social workers, nurses, and psychiatrists, and consultan…

  • A Closer Examination of Relational Outcomes from a Pilot Study of Abbreviated, Intensive, Multi‐Couple Group Cognitive‐Behavioral Conjoint Therapy for PTSD with Military Dyads

    Open Access•Steffany J Fredman, Yunying Le et al.•ARTICLE•Family Process•2021

Cognitive‐behavioral conjoint therapy for posttraumatic stress disorder (CBCT for PTSD) is associated with improvements in patients’ PTSD symptoms, partners’ psychological distress, and relationship satisfaction. However, little is known about whether CBCT for PTSD is associated with changes in other relationship domains that have theoretical and clinical relevance to the relational context of PTSD. The current study is a secondary analysis of re…

  • Relational and Growth Outcomes Following Couples Therapy With MDMA for PTSD

    Open Access•A C Wagner, Rachel E Liebman et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2021

Healing from trauma occurs in a relational context, and the impacts of traumatic experiences that result in post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) go beyond the diagnosis itself. To fully understand a treatment for PTSD, understanding its impact on interpersonal, relational, and growth outcomes yields a more fulsome picture of the effects of the treatment. The current paper examines these secondary outcomes of a pilot trial of Cognitive Behavioral…

  • Temporary PTSD symptom increases among individuals receiving CPT in a hybrid effectiveness-implementation trial: Potential predictors and association with overall symptom change trajectory

    Sadie E Larsen, Margaret‐Anne Mackintosh et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Trauma Theory…•2020

The rates of symptom increases, which were higher than in previous studies, may be attributed to a routine care sample or to the differences in session timing and measurement. These results add to a nascent literature documenting that symptom increases may be a normal, transient part of treatment that do not impact a patient's ability to have symptom improvement during a course of CPT. • An Open Label Pilot Study of a Brief Psychosocial Intervention for Disaster and Trauma Survivors

    Open Access•Meaghan O’Donnell, Meaghan Louise O'Donnell et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2020

This study provides preliminary evidence that the delivery of the SOLAR program after disaster by trained, frontline workers with little or no mental health experience is feasible, acceptable, safe, and beneficial in reducing psychological symptoms and impairment among disaster survivors. Randomized controlled trials of the SOLAR program are required to advance evidence of its efficacy

  • Combining Cognitive-Behavioral Conjoint Therapy for PTSD with 3,4-Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA): A Case Example

    A C Wagner, Michael C Mithoefer et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Psychoactive Drugs•2019

Treatments for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) have evolved significantly in the past 35 years. From what was historically viewed as a pervasive, intractable condition have emerged multiple evidence-based intervention options. These treatments, predominantly cognitive behavioral in orientation, provide significant symptom improvement in 50-60% of recipients. The treatment of PTSD with MDMA-assisted psychotherapy using a supportive, non-direc…
