  • Experimental taphonomy of fish bone from warm and cold water species: Testing the effects of amino acid composition on collagen breakdown in modern fish bone using thermal maturation experiments

    Open Access•Virginia L Harvey, R Wogelius et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science•2021•Cited by: 1•References: 12

  • Interpreting the historical terrestrial vertebrate biodiversity of Cayman Brac (Greater Antilles, Caribbean) through collagen fingerprinting

    Open Access•Virginia L Harvey, Victoria M Egerton et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2019•Cited by: 2•References: 12

Cayman Brac (Cayman Islands) lies within the Caribbean Islands Biodiversity Hotspot, an epicenter of high biodiversity and endemism. However, all endemic terrestrial mammals on the Cayman Islands are now extinct, following post-1500 AD human colonization of the islands. Introduced rodents and domesticated mammals now exclusively represent this facet of terrestrial fauna on the Cayman Islands, and are a likely cause of endemic species loss on the …

  • Collagen deamidation in archaeological bone as an assessment for relative decay rates

    Open Access•Manasij Pal Chowdhury, R Wogelius et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeometry•2019•Cited by: 2•References: 51

Attempts to extend methods for dating archaeological bones beyond that of radiocarbon dating, such as amino acid racemization, have met with limited success owing to the dependence on multiple environmental factors and controls. Despite facing similar challenges, deamidation of glutamine has recently been investigated as a potential indicator of ‘thermal age' in archaeological bones, as well as a measure of their preservation quality. In this stu…
