Mobilizing Disability Studies
Mobility recurs as an aspiration for those with a disability yet disability tends to be ignored or inadequately dealt with in mobility studies. This article seeks to achieve two main objectives: first, to discuss how and what the journal has achieved over the years; and, second, to highlight that the denial of mobility is a negation of what it means to be human. Overall, the article seeks to deploy a critical intervention required for mobility st…
Africa, Are We There Yet?” Taking African Mobilities Seriously—Concluding Remarks
Adopting an African-focused perspective in the analysis of African experiences of mobility enables us to confront the limits imposed by a historicist-induced articulation of African experiences of mobility. This article offers some concluding remarks to a section on African mobilities and attempts a critical analysis of how an African-based perspective of mobility serves to decenter or provincialize the Western-centric discourses of mobility. In this article, I recast Sembène's film, Moolaade, in a new relief to foreground the co…
The occult, politics and African modernities
In this article, we take the postcolonial state as a complex metaphysical and social landscape characterised by the interplay of forces generated from the cultural ripples of the encounter of the postcolonial world with Western modernity. This is done by employing the Diesel N'anga story from Zimbabwe to locate the place of the occult in the whole postcolonial social and political unfolding in Africa. We argue that embedded within African multipl…
Whipping into Line’
This article draws from my current research on the challenges that the concept ‘citizenship’ brings to postcolonial Africa. The article takes Zimbabwe as a case study with the view to interrogate how the decade‐long crisis has been obfuscated by the elites' manipulation of the education system which has left it redundant for envisioning both postcolonial and world citizenship. First, this article seeks to outline the challenge of enunciating the …
