  • "Covid-19 spreads round the planet, and so do paranoid thoughts". A qualitative investigation into personal experiences of psychosis during the Covid-19 pandemic

Open Access•M Lyons, Ellen Bootes et al.•ARTICLE•Current Psychology•2023

The COVID-19 pandemic is likely to affect people who have had previous experiences of psychosis – either positively or negatively. A research gap exists in looking at qualitative experiences of the pandemic. In the present study, we address the research gap in those who self-identified as having psychosis via Reddit discussion forum posts, collecting data from a popular online community. Sixty-five posts were analysed using inductive thematic ana…

  • Callous-Unemotional Traits are Associated With Child-to-Parent Aggression

    Open Access•Hue San Kuay, L G Boothroyd et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of Offender…•2022

This study examined the relations between callous-unemotional traits and perpetration of aggression toward parents in two separate studies, while also considering motivation for aggression and parenting styles experienced among young people. Study 1 involved 60 parents of children aged between 11 and 17 years old. The online study found high callous-unemotional traits, as reported by parents, to be associated with aggression toward both parents. …

  • Experiences of Mental Distress during Covid-19: Thematic Analysis of Discussion Forum Posts for Anxiety, Depression, and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder

    Open Access•Gayle Brewer, Luna C Muñoz Centifanti et al.•ARTICLE•Illness Crisis & Loss•2022•References: 42

The psychological impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on coronavirus patients, health care workers, and the general population is clear. Relatively few studies have, however, considered the impact of the pandemic on those with pre-existing mental health conditions. Therefore, the present study investigates the personal experiences of those with anxiety, depression, and obsessive-compulsive disorder during COVID-19. We conducted a qualitative study ut…

  • Barriers to sexual harassment bystander intervention in Ecuadorian universities

Open Access•M Lyons, Gayle Brewer et al.•ARTICLE•Global Public Health•2021

Previous research, mainly in the United States, has identified several barriers to acting as a bystander in sexual harassment at university campuses. Despite the high frequency of harassment in Latin America, there is a dearth of studies investigating barriers to bystander behaviour in this context. In this pilot study, we report findings exploring harassment and bystander behaviour in university staff and students in Ecuador, a Latin American co…

  • Borderline Personality Traits and Emotion Regulation Strategies in Adolescents: The Role of Implicit Theories

Open Access•Jane McLachlan, Mani Mehdikhani et al.•ARTICLE•Child Psychiatry & Human…•2021

Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) is associated with emotion dysregulation. The emotion regulation strategies people adopt may depend on one's belief about emotion as either fixed or changeable (termed "implicit theory"). We test this experimentally by modifying beliefs about emotions using virtual reality (VR). A sample of 29 adolescents (ages 14-17 years) were recruited from two adolescent inpatient units for an uncontrolled pilot trial of …

  • Mind‐mindedness versus mentalistic interpretations of behavior: Is mind‐mindedness a relational construct

Open Access•Frances Larkin, Robin Schacht et al.•ARTICLE•Infant Mental Health Journal•2021•Cited by: 3•References: 46

Mind‐mindedness is a measure of the tendency to represent significant others in internal state terms and is central to supportive parent–infant relationships. The two studies reported here explored whether mind‐mindedness generalizes to representations of unknown individuals, using a novel task that assessed individual differences in adults’ tendency to interpret others’ behavior with reference to their internal states: the Unknown Mother–Infant …

  • Variants of psychopathy in male and female civil psychiatric patients: Latent profile analyses of the MacArthur violence risk dataset

    Open Access•Steven M Gillespie, Carlo Garofalo et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Criminal Justice•2021•Cited by: 1•References: 42

  • Proactive and Reactive Aggression Subgroups in Typically Developing Children: The Role of Executive Functioning, Psychophysiology, and Psychopathy

    Open Access•Nicholas D Thomson, Luna C Muñoz Centifanti•ARTICLE•Child Psychiatry & Human…•2017

This study aimed to assess whether groups of aggressive children differed on psychopathic traits, and neuropsychological and neurobiological measures of prefrontal functioning consistent with the objectives of their aggression-reactive or proactive. Including 110 typically developing children (9-11 years), a latent class analysis identified a low aggression group, a high reactive aggression group, and a mixed (high reactive and proactive) aggress…

  • Callous-Unemotional Traits Moderate the Relation Between Prenatal Testosterone (2D: (4D) and Externalising Behaviours in Children

    Open Access•Alyson Blanchard, Luna C Muñoz Centifanti•ARTICLE•Child Psychiatry & Human…•2016

Children who exhibit callous-unemotional (CU) traits are identified as developing particularly severe forms of externalising behaviours (EB). A number of risk factors have been identified in the development of CU traits, including biological, physiological, and genetic factors. However, prenatal testosterone (PT) remains un-investigated, yet could signal fetal programming of a combination of CU/EB. Using the 2D:4D digit ratio, the current study e…

  • Driving Under the Influence of Risky Peers: An Experimental Study of Adolescent Risk Taking

    Open Access•Luna C Muñoz Centifanti, Kathryn L Modecki et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Research on Adolescence•2014•Cited by: 3•References: 8

Both passive and active social influences may affect adolescents' dangerous driving. In this study, we used an experimental paradigm to delineate these two influences with actual peers. Adolescents completed a simulated driving task, and we measured risk preferences of each member of the peer group. We used hierarchical linear modeling to partition variance in risky decisions. Adolescents experienced many more crashes when they had “passengers” p…

    Open Access•Kostas A Fanti, Luna C Muñoz Centifanti•ARTICLE•Child Psychiatry & Human…•2013

  • Recognition of Pain as Another Deficit in Young Males with High Callous-Unemotional Traits

    Open Access•Susanne Wolf, Susanne A Wolf et al.•ARTICLE•Child Psychiatry & Human…•2013
