    The folkloric anecdotes collated by the Rev. Edmund Jones (1702–93) constitute our richest surviving source material on supernatural beliefs in eighteenth-century Wales.     Motivated by a religiously-based defensive credulity, the accounts of apparitions recorded by Edmund Jones (1702-93) are heavily coloured by his personal religious beliefs.
