Some examples of queer literature from the interwar Estonian Republic and Soviet Estonia are introduced. The cent…
Cultural heterologies and democracy
This special issue represents one of the first attempts at comparative analyses of cultural processes in the three Baltic countries during the post-socialist transition period. A transition period is here understood as the decisive and radical transformation of the political and economic conditions of a specific geographical area (a country or region), resulting in complete systemic change within a timeframe comprehensible within a human lifespan…
Ephemerality in the digital world
Uued loomevõimalused internetis. Märkmeid sotsiaalmeedia kirjandusest / New Creative Practices on Internet. Some Remarks on Social Media Literature
Artiklis analüüsitakse sotsiaalmeedia kirjandust (nt tviteratuuri, Facebooki kirjandust, Instagrami ja Tumblri luulet) kui digitaalse kirjanduse alaliiki. Kaardistatakse mõned mõisted ja lähenemised, mida sotsiaalmeedia kirjandust käsitledes on eri uurijate poolt varem kasutatud või mis on sedalaadi kirjanduse analüüsiks asjakohased. Lähemalt vaadeldakse kirjandust sotsiaalmeedias kirjanduse demokratiseerumise, amatöörsuse ja professionaalsuse, o…
Kirjandus ja digitaalne tehnoloogia / Literature and Digital Technology
Eesti kirjanduse ja digitehnoloogilise pöörde suhted ulatuvad juba enam kui kahekümne aasta tagusesse aega. Siinse artikliga antakse ülevaade, kuidas digitaalne tehnoloogia on mõjutanud Eestis kirjanduse, sh kirjandusajaloo üle mõtlemist ning nüüdisaegseid kirjanduslikke vorme. Tuuakse näiteid Eestis teostatud digihumanitaariaga seostatavatest projektidest ja digitaalse kirjanduse avaldumisvormidest. Samuti arutletakse artiklis digihumanitaaria m…
Sõjakujutusest tänapäeva eesti kirjanduses. Leo Kunnase sõjad
Eesti sõjakirjanduse uurimisest Sõda on eesti kirjanduses olnud ideoloogiliselt laetud teema, ühtlasi on sõjakujutus eesti kirjanduses olnud seotud ka üldinimlike aspektidega.
Eesti filoloogia on elus
Kka Veel Postmodernismist
Berk Vaher on käesoleva aasta maikuu Keeles ja Kirjanduses võtnud ette tänuväärse ülesande arvustada ajakirja Methis 11. numbrit (2013), nn nullindate erinumbrit.(1) Kuna tegemist on ühele kindlale teemale pühendatud väljaandega, on tervitatav, et keegi ühe ajakirja erinumbrit niimoodi analüüsib. Sissejuhatavalt loetleb Vaher teemad, mida nullindate erinumbris ei ole: ulme, luule, Andrus Kivirähki looming, tõlkekirjandus jne. [...]

The Digimodernist Estonian Writer
The article examines the cultural situation following postmodernism in the first decade of the 21st century. To characterise this situation, the umbrella term “post-postmodernism” is used, as well as “neomodernism”, “altermodern”, “metamodernism”, “hypermodernity”, “performatism”, “critical realism” etc. All these approaches are, in a wider sense, united by their aim of opposing postmodernist cynicism and irony, and bringing back truth, simplicit…

Postmodernism in Estonian Literary Culture
Üksildus küberruumis
The keywords in analyses of digital literature and cybertexts (literature that has been created by and is read on a computer) mostly derive from the vocabulary of increasing collectivism: shared authorship, readerviewer interaction, their active participation in creating text etc. However, this article focuses on the opposite phenomenon: the essence of individualism in the process of digital text creation, that is, solitude. At the same time, the…
Literature in Cyberspace
Contemporary society has become an information society and hence it makes sense to interpret various changes in the cultural sphere. Connections between computer technology and literature are one aspect of the complicated global set of problems in tackling the adaptation of texts with the media. The article focuses on what happens with literary texts in cyberspace, how they adapt to that environment, and it examines the forms of "cyberliterature"…
