    Open Access•Владимир Фещенко, V V Feshchenko•ARTICLE•Critique and Semiotics•2025

At the intersection of linguistics, philosophy of language and literary theories, a special direction is currently being formed, which can be called the pragmatics of artistic discourses, including the study of linguopragmatic parameters of the discourses of prose, poetry, drama, theater, cinema, performance, song, etc. This article is devoted to the prehistory and current state of pragmatic approaches to poetic discourse. During the twentieth ce…

  • Pragmatic markers in contemporary poetry

    Open Access•Olga V Sokolova, Владимир Фещенко•ARTICLE•Russian Journal of Linguistics•2024

Poetic discourse, which engages the poetic function of language as a constitutive one, transforms the postulates of pragmatics of ordinary language. New poetic practices often represent a kind of pragmatic experiment: the effect of linguopragmatic parameters inherent in conventional communication is tested here on the borderline between the norm and the anomaly. The aim of this study is to identify the specific functionality of pragmatic markers …

  • “Semoquake” and Other Metaphors of Linguistic Turns

    Владимир Фещенко, Vladimir V Feshchenko•ARTICLE•RSUH/RGGU Bulletin Literary…•2024

The article deals with some aspects of A.N. Barulin’s semiotic conception. The concept of “semoquake” introduced by him (which means significant periods of sharp and large-scale global changes in the evolution of sign systems, including language) is discussed here in a number of close metascientific terms of linguistic theory, such as “semiotic revolution”, “linguistic turn”, “language experiment”, and “language anomaly”. The study considers exam…

  • “Spaces of Silence” and “Secret Music of the Word”

Open Access•Olga Sokolova, Olga V Sokolova et al.•ARTICLE•Arts•2024

Two major poets of the Russian Neo-Avant-Garde—Gennady Aygi and Elizaveta Mnatsakanova—created textual works that transgressed the limits of language and the borders between the arts. Each pursued their own method of the visualization and musicalization of verbal matter, yet both share a particular musical sensibility, which guarantees the integrity of the linguistic structure of their verse, despite the fragmentation and logical incoherence of i…

  • Artistic communication as an object of semiotics and linguistic aesthetics

    Open Access•Владимир Фещенко, Vladimir Feshchenko•ARTICLE•Sign Systems Studies•2023•Cited by: 2•References: 3

The paper addresses the concept of artistic communication as a type of semiotic interaction in the discourses of art. Semiotic methodologies for modelling the sign and the communicative act, developed in the works of Gottlob Frege, Gustav Shpet, Jan Mukařovský, Roman Jakobson, Juri Lotman, Umberto Eco, Suren Zolyan, and some other semioticians, are discussed with a focus on the models of aesthetic sign and the corresponding models of semiosis in …

  • Continuous Reframing

    Open Access•Владимир Фещенко, Vladimir V Feshchenko•ARTICLE•Critique and Semiotics•2022

The article is devoted to a little-known episode of direct contacts between modern linguistics and experimental poetry. In the 1980s, the era of the so-called “linguistics wars” in the USA, that took place between representatives of generative grammar and cognitive semantics, “poetic wars” unfolded, one of the sides of which were the poets of the “language school”. G. Lakoff published a number of polemical articles in which he discusses the value…

  • In the Three-Dimensional Space of Linguistic Theory and Literary Experiment

    Open Access•Владимир Фещенко, V V Feshchenko•ARTICLE•Critique and Semiotics•2021

Based on Yu. S. Stepanov’s conception of the three paradigms in the history of linguistics, philosophy and art (semantic, syntactic and pragmatic), this study highlights the three phases of the linguo-aesthetic turn in the theory of language and in the artistic language experiment of the 20 th century: formal-semantic, functional-syntactic and actional-pragmatic. Analyzed are the creative linguistic techniques used in experimental literary discou…

  • From Linguistic Aesthetics to Linguistic Heuristics

    Open Access•Владимир Фещенко, V V Feshchenko•ARTICLE•Critique and Semiotics•2020

The article discusses the issue of linguistic creativity in two types of discourse – literary and academic, as well as the linguistic mechanisms of word-making in artistic (experimental) literature in comparison with term- creation in scientific (philological) texts. The analysis distinguishes features that differentiate the scientific-academic and literary-artistic discourse, and those features that assimilate them. The perspective of analysis i…

    Open Access•Владимир Фещенко, V V Feshchenko•ARTICLE•Critique and Semiotics•2019

The article provides an overview of some recent works on cognitive poetics. Of particular interest are studies close to linguistic problematic of cognition in literary texts. A separate analysis tackles the case from the history of Russian thought about language and poetry – the theory of artistic (poetic) concepts by the Russian philosopher S. А. Askoldov. The paper also considers conceptions of Western-European linguists that emerged at the pea…

  • Voice and bodily deixis as manifestation of performativity in written texts

    Open Access•Sergei G Proskurin, Sergey Proskurin et al.•ARTICLE•Semiotica•2019•References: 2

This article deals with voice and bodily deixis as manifestations of performativity in written texts. A speech act of origin presents as both vocal and performative events. Ritual matrixes of culture contain performative complexes, as suggested by Austin. Such performative nuclei are neither true nor false, that is, their negation cannot be logically inferred from true premises. The term deixis describes the performative moment of the utterance, …

    Open Access•Владимир Фещенко, Vladimir Feshchenko•ARTICLE•Przegląd Wschodnioeuropejski•2018

The article analyzes one of the forms of nomadism in the intellectual world, which is called cultural transfers. One of the directions in the study of cultural transfers is the migration of concepts and notions between scientific knowledge (in this case linguistic) and literary experience (mainly experimental). The article is devoted to one of such migration trajectory from the perspective of interdiscourse methodology. We discuss the works of on…

    Open Access•Владимир Фещенко, Vladimir Feshchenko•ARTICLE•Sign Systems Studies•2015•Cited by: 2

The article examines the implicit tradition of deep semiotics in Russia initiated by Gustav Shpet, a Russian philosopher of language. Shpet’s semiotic approach was developed synchronously with the major lines of European and American semiotics (Saussurian and Peircean), but has not been sufficiently known or studied. The recent publication of previously unknown papers by Shpet makes this Russian philosopher an advanced figure on the Russian semio…
