    This article examines the recent Frankfurt Opera production of Harrison Birtwistle’s Punch and Judy as a staging of violence and its symbolic transformations. Through a detailed analysis of the scenography, it argues that the production builds a network of visual and conceptual parallels linking bodily violence, ritual sacrifice, religion, and sexuality.
