Background: Community-based participatory research (CBPR) approaches equitably involve community members and researchers throughout the research process. CBPR as Community Health Intervention
In the first iteration, an interactive process evaluation was conducted during each program stage, plus a final year-end exit interview with each participating CBO. Evaluation demonstrated strong positive results and specific lessons learned. A proposal incorporating the lessons learned was presented to the funding source. A second iteration has been funded, with monies included to develop a formal outcome evaluation

Joining Academy and Community in an Educational Venture
THIS NOTE DESCRIBES a teaching-learning center designed to enhance students' agency in their own education and in learning social responsibility (Wright 1989). Scholars since John Dewey have experimented with forms of pedagogy designed to ameliorate the adverse and pacifying effects of the traditional classroom (Argyris and Schon 1974; Dewey 1916; Friere 1970; Kolb 1984). Who Sues Their Doctors? How Patients Handle Medical Grievances
This article applies the dispute processing model developed by Felstiner, Abel, and Sarat (1980-81) to disputing between patients and doctors. We conducted interviews with 240 dissatisfied patients to examine the dispute resolution choices they made in response to unsatisfactory medical experiences. Probit models were constructed for each of five resolution choices, incorporating independent variables derived form the Felstiner et al. conceptual …

This article analyzes a significant, but little researched, form of legal involvement in the medical profession—state appellate court opinions. Analyzing 100 years of state appellate court decisions on a legal rule called the “locality rule,” the author presents four distinct judicial interpretations of the rule.
