  • Global waveshape parameter Rd in signaling focal prominence

Open Access•Irena Yanushevskaya, Andy Murphy et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Communication•2022

This paper explores perceptual salience of voice source parameter manipulation in signaling prominence in the absence of f 0 variation. Synthetic stimuli were generated based on an inverse filtered all-voiced utterance “We were away a year ago.” A global waveshape parameter R d was manipulated in the stimuli to enhance prominence in the two potentially accentable syllables WAY and YEAR and to provide voice source deaccentuation post-focally. The …

  • The role of voice quality in communicating emotion, mood and attitude

  • Contextual Variation of the Vowel Voice Source as a Function of Adjacent Consonants

    Open Access•Ailbhe Ní Chasaide, Christer Gobl•ARTICLE•Language and Speech•1993•Cited by: 8•References: 2

The contextual effects of voiced/voiceless stops on the voice source of an adjacent vowel were examined for the first vowel in ‘CVCV utterances in German, English, Swedish, French, and Italian. The principal analysis technique involved interactive inverse filtering and parameterisation of the glottal waveform in terms of a four-parameter voice source model (the LF-model). This analysis procedure was supplemented by measures from narrowband spectr…
