  • A pilot feasibility randomized clinical trial of a culturally adapted accelerated group treatment for posttraumatic stress, insomnia, and nightmares in firefighters

    Open Access•Carmen P Mclean, Sara M Janke et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Trauma Theory…•2026

  • The role of measurement in moral injury care

    Open Access•Brandon J Griffin, Elise A Warner et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2026

These findings support the use of the MIDS in measurement-based care to identify distinct clinical presentations of moral injury, including those with moderate to severe presentations that warrant further evaluation and potentially treatment

  • Key considerations for patient choice and development of alternatives

    Carmen P Mclean, Shannon Wiltsey-Stirman et al.•ARTICLE•American Psychologist•2026

  • The Moral Injury and Distress Scale

Sonya B Norman, Brandon J Griffin et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Trauma Theory…•2023

  • DSM-5 criterion-a-based trauma types in service members and veterans seeking treatment for posttraumatic stress disorder

Open Access•Natasha Benfer, Breanna Grunthal et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Trauma Theory…•2023

Because of discrepancies between participant and assessor typologies, clinical researchers should use participants' ratings, and these should trump assessor judgment. Differences in pretreatment behavioral and mental health problems across some participant-endorsed trauma types partially support the validity of the participant ratings. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2024 APA, all rights reserved)

  • Perceptions and experiences of web-prolonged exposure for posttraumatic stress disorder

Open Access•Carmen P Mclean, Madeleine Miller et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Trauma Theory…•2022

Perceptions and experience of Web-PE are favorable and help to highlight the strengths (e.g., flexibility) and challenges (e.g., requiring self-motivation) associated with Web-treatment for PTSD. The results of this study may inform further development of Web-PE or other Web-based treatment programs. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2023 APA, all rights reserved)

  • Covid-19 Exposure, Stress, and Mental Health Outcomes

    Open Access•Carmen P Mclean, Edna B Foa et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Trauma Theory…•2020

Web-PE significantly reduced PTSD symptoms in both studies, although the reductions in PTSD symptoms were greater among open trial participants, who were specifically seeking a web-based treatment. Future research should evaluate Web-PE relative to another web-based treatment. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2022 APA, all rights reserved)

Further, identifying mechanisms of therapeutic change will answer important theoretical questions about how PE works, in order to refine and increase the efficacy and efficiency of PE to better meet the needs of individuals with PTSD. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2019 APA, all rights reserved)

    Open Access•Cindy J Chang, Antonia N Kaczkurkin et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Trauma Theory…•2017
