Profiling caregivers: Caregiving workload, mobility, stress, and remote work difficulties
The increasing focus on the urban dimensions of care has brought attention to mobility as a crucial aspect. However, traditional origin–destination and time-use surveys often overlook the nuanced and diverse aspects of care-related mobility. They fail to account for the variety of care tasks, socioeconomic conditions, spatial contexts, and relational dynamics that shape different forms of care-related movement. Our article aims to contribute to f…

Transferring transport policy problems: The instrumental role of social concerns in policy transfer
The paper investigates the overlooked role of problem setting in policy setting and transfer. The prevalent rational approach to urban mobility issues in fact privileges problem solving over problem setting, overlooking the role of problems in policy transfer processes. Reviewing institutional and academic works, the paper develops a comparative reading of Bogotá and Santiago, two Southern cities that justified their mobility policies referring t…
Improving Participation for Sustainable Transport: Testing CoAXs Amidst Controversy Around a BRT Project in Santiago, Chile
We examine to what extent Public Participation GIS (PPGIS) contributes to a successful participatory process and how context affects the tool’s role in both process and results. We tested a tool to visualize accessibility effects of transport projects, using it in participatory workshops related to a major bus corridor proposal in Santiago de Chile. We innovated in the tool itself, to visualize overcrowding effects as a way to include comfort iss…
Unequal periurban mobility: Travel patterns, modal choices and urban core dependence in Latin America
Planning for accessibility: The Divide Between Research and Policy in the Promotion of Equitable Mobility
Mobility-related social inequalities are receiving increasing attention from planning research and practice. Nevertheless, research seems to have a limited impact on urban policies addressing mobility. Using Santiago de Chile as a case study, the paper discusses the existing gaps between research on mobility-related equity concerns and existing policies and plans addressing urban mobility operating at national, metropolitan and municipal scales. …
Delivery workers and the interplay of digital and mobility (in)justice
On-demand delivery services are experiencing a moment of expansion, which the COVID-19 pandemic contributed to foster. For cities in quarantine, these services allow the supply of food and other primary goods without moving from home, making riders move and access them on behalf of the clients. During a pandemic, working as a rider potentially increases the risks of an already precarious job given the contractual arrangements and the algorithmic …
Sustainable development goals and corporate reporting: An empirical investigation of the oil and gas industry
In recent years, many companies have started to include references to the sustainable development goals (SDGs) in their corporate reporting as a means for demonstrating their contribution to sustainable development. However, connecting company results to the SDGs is not straightforward, since this framework has not been originally designed for corporate reporting, resulting in high heterogeneity among companies and industries. Moving from this co…
Accessibility and the Capabilities Approach: A review of the literature and proposal for conceptual advancements
The Capability Approach, developed by Sen and Nussbaum, has recently gained increasing attention in the transport literature. This paper adds to this growing body of literature by investigating how the approach can generate consistent evaluative approaches to inform (urban) transport planning. The paper reviews the mobility literature that has investigated the Capabilities Approach and identifies the opportunities and challenges of employing the …
Vulnerable individuals and institutions: The double territorial burden of Covid-19 in Chile
In fragile territories, the COVID-19 pandemic has often worsened pre-existing forms of vulnerability, especially socio-economic and institutional ones Chile, a structurally vulnerable country in many respects, is unfortunately a good example: its communities are exposed to natural disasters and the effects of climate change, as well as to social imbalances The latter is a result of high economic inequality emerging from the country's market-drive…
Transport and equity in Latin America: A critical review of socially oriented accessibility assessments
A growing concern for mobility-related social inclusion and equity is evident from both academic research and planning best practices. Scholarly research promotes accessibility as the main aim of transport planning, assuming it as the evaluative approach that better conveys how mobility contributes to individuals' well-being and participation in social life. Accessibility can be crucial to address the socio-spatial inequalities that characterise …

May the Force move you”: Roles and actors of information sharing devices in urban mobility
Producing Opportunities Together: Sharing-Based Policy Approaches for Marginal Mobilities in Bogotá
Everyday mobility practices are increasingly an element of interest for urban policy, as well as for suggesting alternative solutions to urban issues. Amongst their manifold contributions, practices can be relevant for securing individuals’ access to places and opportunities. They can do so by promoting services and behaviours based on resources that individuals may share between themselves. This role could be significant especially for those set…
Democracy on the move? Bogotá’s urban transport strategies and the access to the city
Everyday urban mobility is fundamental to access the opportunities offered by cities, something required to accomplish one’s own aims and guarantee participation in social life. Nonetheless, it is difficult to guarantee significant individual opportunities by fighting mobility-related social exclusion, especially in Global South cities characterized by scarce provision of mobility services and wide presence of urban poverty. The city of Bogotá ha…
