The claim to have rights, and the right to have claims − transnational solidarity of Roma in the face of the war in Ukraine
Między strukturą a sprawczością – źródła i konsekwencje kolektywizmu migracji Romów
Currently, there is an increasing interest among researchers in the emigration from Poland not only of ethnic Poles, but also of minorities – Jews, Germans, Silesians, and Ukrainians. Despite considerable interest from researchers in the Roma minority in Poland in areas related to integration, education, social advancement, or exclusion, particularly in the context of European Union policy, until recently, little attention was paid to the topic o…
Unequal Citizenship and Ethnic Boundaries in the Migration Experience of Polish Roma
Since the early 1990s, large numbers of Polish Roma have emigrated, mainly to Germany and Great Britain. Unlike the migration of Polish (non-Roma) citizens there was an intriguing silence regarding the migration of this ethnic group. The absence of Roma in the grand narrative of migrations from Poland, as we argue, suggests that the notion of belonging and citizenship were unequally distributed among Poland’s population. Based on our ongoing ethn…
There is a wide path and there is a narrow path' - transnational negotiations of ethnic and religious identity among Polish Roma Jehovah's Witnesses

Why Do Roma Migrate? A Critical Analysis of Academic Silence in Polish Scholarship
The article discusses the case of academic silence with regards to the migration of Roma from Poland – both in Polish Romani studies and in migration studies. The absence of Romani migration in migration research in Poland is contrasted with the absence of the subject of migration in Romani studies, offering a glimpse into fundamental assumptions, and politically and ideologically determined paradigms within both areas. Paradoxically, the group a…
Stay calm and beshen khere. Internet i transnarodowa intensyfikacja życia polskich Romów w czasie pandemii Covid-19
Artykuł podejmuje, nieobecną do tej pory w polskich badaniach romologicznych, tematykę internetowych (rodzinnych i towarzyskich) praktyk polskich Romów. Głównego kontekstu dostarcza pandemia koronawirusa (Covid-19) i towarzyszący jej stan zamknięcia (lockdown) i konieczność zachowania tzw. dystansu społecznego w okresie od połowy marca do końca kwietnia 2020 roku. Badania przeprowadzone zostały online wśród polskich Romów w Polsce i zagranicą. In…
Polish Roma Migrations - Transnationalism and Identity in Anthropological Perspective
Until recently, the migration of Polish Roma has not been a subject of an academic inquiry. This article aim is to shed light on some issues related to transnational living and identity of Polish Roma in anthropological perspective1. The findings of our research suggest that Roma migrations from Poland are not categorically different from non-Roma population and in fact are integral and socially connected part of history of migrations from Poland…
