    Open Access•Sidique Gawusu, Mohammed Abdul-Fatawu et al.•ARTICLE•Sustainable Futures•2025•References: 2

Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) faces the dual challenge of expanding energy access while minimizing environmental impact. Despite relatively low current emissions, rapid urbanization and industrialization threaten to significantly increase the region’s carbon footprint. This study examines the relationship between energy consumption and CO2 emissions in SSA using Monte Carlo simulations to evaluate various electricity consumption scenarios. Employing 1…

The purpose of this article is to review the dynamics of natural gas resources in Africa and evaluate how it can help solve the power challenges of the continent. This article develops from a descriptive analysis and desk review on natural gas and power. The key finding is that despite the increased discovery of natural gas in Africa, it has had minimal impact on power production. This study provides a descriptive overview and is limited to only …

  • Politics of Oil and Gas in Ghana

Open Access•Emmanuel Graham, Ishmael Ackah et al.•ARTICLE•Insight on Africa•2016

The discovery of oil should transform economies, since oil revenues can be invested in infrastructure and the non-oil sector. Whilst oil discovery has transformed the economy of countries such as Indonesia, Norway and UK, the story is different in Sub-Saharan Africa. Available evidence in countries like Angola, Equatorial Guinea, and Nigeria suggests that economic growth has an inverse relationship with oil production. Some researchers have attri…
