Female parliamentarians and environmental sustainability
This study examines how cultural contexts shape the relationship between female parliamentarians and environmental sustainability. Drawing on institutional theory, we argue that the impact of women in parliament on environmental outcomes depends on the cultural environment in which they operate. Using data from 18 countries over 20 years, we apply robust econometric techniques, including two-stage ordinary least square (2SLS), system-generalise m…

The impact of corruption on green innovation
This study examines the effect of corruption on green innovation. We employed a panel corrected standard error (PCSE) and robust checking system generalized moment of method (S-GMM) model on a panel sample of 61 OECD and non-OECD countries between 2010 and 2018. Our results show that corruption is significant and positively related to green innovation in 61 countries. Similarly, we find that corruption has an increasing impact on green innovation…
Effect of corruption on green growth
Corruption as a social and cultural epidemic is likely to influence the environmental sustainability and quality of the world we live in, where climate change threatens our survival, both now and in the future. Therefore, in this paper, we use large panel data of 123 countries between 2000 and 2017 to examine the environmental effect of corruption on green growth. Consistent with prior studies and due to the slow-changing nature of corruption, we…

Global warming and the rapid depletion of natural assets have made many countries anxious to find green growth strategies, including global partnerships and international business. China has positioned itself as the right partner for sustainable growth and development in Africa through different engagement routes. In this study, we employ fixed effects on a sample of 27 countries over 17 years to examine the impact of China's foreign direct inves…
Energy use and urbanization as determinants of China’s environmental quality
Climate change is an environmental problem that humanity will face over the next several decades. Environmental quality has always been an important component of the quality of life. The rapid rise in urbanization and energy use in China has profound environmental consequences. This study investigates the impact of energy use and urbanization on China’s ecological footprint and CO2 emissions from 1971 to 2016. The results reveal the positive rela…
Does political ideology affect the stringency of environmental policy
The political‐ideological assumption postulates that different political parties have different preferences toward the urgency of environmental sustainability. This article examines the relationship between political ideology and environmental policy stringency. I employ robust econometric specification on 23 OECD countries over 23 years. Results show a significant relationship between political ideology and environmental policy stringency. Howev…
