An observational analysis of shade-related pedestrian activity
The impact of shade on pedestrian travel activity is examined through observation of a large sample of sidewalk users at a variety of urban sites under hot and sunny conditions. Extensive data collection in the city of Tel Aviv-Yafo, Israel, included micrometeorological measurements alongside pedestrian counts, using high-frequency imaging at 34 sites during summer daytime hours. A sample of individuals (n = 5263) identified approximately 60% as …
The significance of shade provision in reducing street-level summer heat stress in a hot Mediterranean climate
Understanding the benefits of public urban green space: How do perceptions vary between professionals and users
Usage of urban green space and related feelings of deprivation during the Covid-19 lockdown: Lessons learned from an Italian case study
Effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on the use and perceptions of urban green space: An international exploratory study
Life cycle assessment of an energy-economy nexus: The case of Israel and South Korea
Knowledge transfer between stakeholders in the field of urban forestry and green infrastructure: Results of a European survey
The influence of trees and grass on outdoor thermal comfort in a hot‐arid environment
The effects of vegetation on human thermal stress in a hot‐arid region were tested in two semi‐enclosed urban spaces with various combinations of mature trees, grass, overhead shading mesh and paving. The index of thermal stress was calculated hourly from measured meteorological data in the studied sites to evaluate thermal comfort in the different spaces based on radiative and convective pedestrian–environment energy exchanges and sweat efficien…
Architecture and Climate: The Environmental Continuum
Architecture and climate have always been linked in a pattern of mutual influence. In its role as a provider of shelter, architecture intentionally modifies the climate of an immediate area - and traditionally, its design has been shaped by the stresses and opportunities inherent in the regional climate. In modern times, this cycle of influence has been obscured, because technology and cheap fuel have allowed architects the option of ignoring cli…
