Who or what is creative? Collaborating with machines to make visual art
This paper considers how creative agency can be positioned as part of visual art practice that involves humans and machines working together. Examples analysed include projects where complex “intelligent” software systems support text creation, or the combination and transformation of digital images, alongside one where a human artist works with a physically instantiated robotic arm to co-create drawings. The paper’s argument uses ideas from acto…
Transmedia storytelling during the Covid-19 pandemic
The COVID-19 pandemic accelerated the importance of streaming within the context of commercial transmedia strategies. Joyful Encounters
Human interactions with machines, including computers, consoles, smart devices and robots, are becoming more and more a part of everyday life. However, human–machine relations are often regarded as problematic for people, their interpersonal communication and human society more broadly. Automation and human relations with the private vehicle
This article theorises interactions between drivers, cars and their surroundings. It uses Don Ihde's four human-technology relations - embodiment, hermeneutic, alterity and background - to analyse the ways in which human-car relationships develop through the process of driving. When driving non-autonomous cars, humans are engaged with cars in driver-car assemblages, within which they are aware of not only the car and how they control its movement…
