  • Examining divorce risk through gender roles in Pakistan

Open Access•Sumera Arshad, Muhammad Zahid Naeem et al.•ARTICLE•Women s Studies International Forum•2024•Cited by: 1•References: 8

This research investigates the risk of divorce in Pakistan, considering various aspects of gender roles. We used rare events logistic regression to determine the risk of divorce based on socioeconomic variables. We find that females are more likely to be divorced than their male counterparts in all estimation scenarios. While our analysis partially supports the gender role specialization theory, both males and females who do not participate in th…

  • Evaluating inter-sectorial efficiency of state-owned bank financing

Ricardo Kalil Moraes, Peter Fernades Wanke et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of Public…•2023

This paper examines the efficiency of the Brazilian productive structure due to public funding provided by its state-owned bank. We develop a hierarchical dynamic game between this bank and the firms yielding investment as a function of the subsidised credit, industry competition, and openness. Through a multi-sector two-stage data envelopment analysis model, we find that the funding's main recipients were not effective in jointly producing aggre…

First, a novel TEA-IS (Trigonometric Envelopment Analysis for Ideal Solutions) model is developed to assess healthcare efficiency at the province level. Machine learning methods are also employed to predict high-low performance and the synergistic Chinese healthcare province in terms o…

  • A new perspective on the U.S. energy efficiency

Open Access•Jorge Antunes, Jorge Junio Moreira Antunes et al.•ARTICLE•Technological Forecasting and…•2023

This paper offers a new perspective on the energy efficiency literature by bringing evidence of political contextual factors as the predictors of energy efficiency. Specifically, we posit that the Democrat administration is more energy-efficient considering the reduction of environmental impact, in contrast, the Republican administration is more efficient considering only financial expenditures leading to the production of economic growth. In add…

  • Uncertainty and tourism in Africa

Open Access•Carolyn Chisadza, Matthew Clance et al.•ARTICLE•Tourism Economics•2022

Tourism growth is on the rise in Africa, and yet limited empirical evidence exists that explores the factors that drive this important contributor of economic growth on the continent. Previous literature focuses mainly on developed countries. This study weighs in on the recent debate on African tourism by providing evidence on the role that economic uncertainties have on tourist arrivals. Using panel data from 1996 to 2017, we find that economic …

Minzhe Du, Jorge Antunes et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Environmental Planning…•2022

This paper develops a novel hybrid Trigonometric Envelopment Analysis for Ideal Solutions (TEA-IS) model to assess the ecological efficiency of 248 Chinese cities for a 14-year period and employs a difference-in-difference approach to reveal the mechanism of the impact of low-carbon pilot city policies on ecological efficiency from the perspective of green technology innovation. This TEA-IS approach not only combines the advantageous features tha…
