This paper examines the effectiveness of providing personalised email feedback via an automated email application in a large undergraduate introductory accounting course. Over 1,200 students received feedback via emails sent weekly, semi-tailored to each student based on their results in online self-test learning quizzes. We first found that students read the majority of emails distributed. Second, through tracking, using regression analysis, we …
Cannabis and children
In the era of (re)legalisation of medicinal and recreational cannabis, accidental and intentional exposure to edibles, cannabis-infused food products, has increased substantially. However, there is particular concern regarding younger age groups. Most concerning is the increase in hospitalisations. According to a study by Myran et al. (1), provinces in Canada, where the sale of edibles is permitted, saw an increase in paediatric poisonings due to…
How does students' general academic achievement moderate the implications of social networking on specific levels of learning performance
Relationship between Psychological Androgyny and Self-Actualization Tendencies
Bem's Sex-role Inventory and the Personal Orientation Inventory were administered to 339 college men and 265 women to test Bern's hypothesis that a relationship would exist between androgyny and a measure of psychological adjustment. Analysis gave some support for the relationship between sex-role identity and self-actualizing tendencies for women but not for men
Relationship Between Two Expressions of Reliability
Studies in applied behavior analysis have used two expressions of reliability for human observations: percentage agreement (including percent occurrence and percent nonoccurrence agreement) and cor-relational techniques (including the phi coefficient). The formal relationship between these two expressions is presented and the overstatement of reliability by percentage agreement, relative to phi, is discussed. It is suggested that both expressions…
Comparison of Factors from the Bem Sex-Role Inventory for Male and Female College Students
The 40 sex-typed items of the Bern Sex-role Inventory were analyzed by the principal components method for samples of 169 male and 206 female undergraduates. The Bern Sex-role Inventory assumes psychological masculinity (M) and femininity (F) as independent, unipolar dimensions of personality which can be measured using pools of items treated as homogeneous. The two analyses were compared with each other and with theoretical orthogonal factors of…
The Relationship of a Measure of Structure of Intellect Abilities and Academic Achievement
The usefulness of the Structure of Intellect (SOI) Learning Abilities Test for predicting reading and arithmetic achievement of elementary school pupils as measured by the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills (ITBS) was investigated using regression analyses. Scores on the two instruments were compared for a sample of one hundred forty-five students. The composite of nine SOI ability scores hypothesized to be related to reading achievement was correlated m…
A Curvilinear Relationship between Extraversion and Performance for Adult Retardates
A curvilinear relationship between extraversion and performance on an operant task for retarded adults was hypothesized. Following previous research with subjects with disturbed cognitive processes, the curve was hypothesized to be opposite from the usual Yerkes-Dodson relationship. The Eysenck-Withers Personality Inventory Extraversion scale was orally administered to 20 adult retardates. These subjects were then required to push a button on eit…
Validity of Psychoticism Scale of the Eysenck Personality Questionnaire
A study was conducted to investigate the validity of the Psychoticism scale of the Eysenck Personality Questionnaire and to test a criticism stating that the scale is overloaded with paranoid items. The questionnaire was administered to 31 hospitalized psychiatric patients and 20 normal aids. A planned comparison between the scores of normals and psychotics was significant but that between the 10 paranoid and 21 nonparanoid schizophrenics was not…
Validity Study of the Eysenck Personality Questionnaire
The Eysenck Personality Questionnaire was compared by means of canonical analysis to the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and to the Adjective Check List, with samples of 79 and 53 individuals, respectively. The results supported the validity of Eysenck's Extraversion and Neuroticism scales but gave less support for the validity of the Psychoticism scale
Language Switching and Constituent Structure
Four experiments employing two groups of bilinguals, Korean-English and Spanish-English, and two modalities of presentation, visual and auditory, were performed. Split-language sentences were presented to the bilingual subjects. The point in the sentence at which the language changed was varied. One group was asked to respond true or false to sentences in which the change in language occurred between constituents. Another group was asked to respo…
