Insights into the morphological errors of adolescents with ASD
This study examined the morphological abilities of Hebrew-speaking adolescents with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), compared to typically developing (TD) peers. While prior research has reported variable language outcomes in ASD, few studies have analyzed the nature and source of morphological errors, particularly in morphologically rich languages such as Hebrew. Fifty-three adolescents (28 ASD, 25 TD), matched on age and gender, completed tasks …
The regularity and complexity in morphological and morpho-syntactic acquisition
This study examines the interaction between regularity and complexity in the acquisition of morphology and morpho-syntax in Hebrew nominal inflection. Seventy-eight Hebrew-speaking children, ages 4-8, were tested, using sentence completion tasks, on nine structures from three linguistic systems: singular adjectival agreement, noun pluralization, and plural adjectival agreement. Regularity and complexity emerged as organizing factors across ages: …
Mothers' Education, Family Language Policy, and Hebrew Plural Formation among Bilingual and Monolingual Children
The present study examines the role of maternal years of education and family language policy (FLP) in monolingual and bilingual children's acquisition of Hebrew plural morphology. The case of the Hebrew plural system is especially interesting when examining the influence of the above factors on morphological performance, given that it demands both a mastery of morphological rules (characterized by a high degree of transparency in Hebrew) and a l…
Stages rather than ages in the acquisition of movement structures
This study explored the order of acquisition of various types of syntactic-movement and embedding structures in Hebrew, using a sentence-repetition task, in which 60 children aged 2;2-3;10 repeated 80 sentences (with a total of 4800 sentences), and an analysis of the spontaneous speech of 61 children aged 1;6-6;1 (27,696 clauses). The sentence repetition task revealed a set order of acquisition of the various types of syntactic movement: A-moveme…
