  • Romance and Croatian in Contact: Non-Clitic Auxiliaries in Istro-Romanian

    Open Access•Adina Dragomirescu, Adrian Nicolae•ARTICLE•Languages•2021•Cited by: 3•References: 28

This paper focuses on Istro-Romanian and argues that the TAM auxiliaries of this variety are not morphophonological clitics. This analysis is supported by the existence of several empirical phenomena (auxiliary-licensed VP-ellipsis, scrambling, and interpolation), some not found in modern Romance, others very rare in modern Romance. This property of Istro-Romanian auxiliary verbs accounts, in conjunction with other features of this variety (e.g.,…

  • From Motion to Desire: The Grammaticalization of a Change of Location Unaccusative Construction in Romanian

    Adina Dragomirescu, Adrian Nicolae•ARTICLE•Probus•2020

This paper documents the steps and analyses the processes by which a concrete change of location unaccusative construction based on a venitive verb grammaticalizes in Romanian as a modal construction exhibiting a variety of desiderative meanings, the most prominent of which is the urge -type of desiderative meaning. This diachronic change is atypical: the venitive verb underwent desemanticization but does not show any detectable morphophonologica…

    Open Access•Mădălina Botez, Adina Dragomirescu•ARTICLE•Diacronia•2017

  • The perfective auxiliary o in the Moldavian variety. Diachrony and synchrony

    Open Access•Mădălina Botez, Adina Dragomirescu•ARTICLE•Diacronia•2017

The aim of the paper is the analysis of the perfective auxiliary o in the Moldavian variety. The paper starts by discussing the origin, the dating, the localization, and the evolution of the form o in Romanian, until the 19th century. Against the literature and the linguistic atlases according to which the form o is general in Moldavia, our corpus study has revealed that the forms a and au are also used alongside the form o, under the influence o…

  • Originea formelor verbale „nonfinite” cu flexiune: Infinitiv vs supin

    Open Access•Adina Dragomirescu, Adrian Nicolae•ARTICLE•Diacronia•2016

  • On the origin of inflected “non-finite” forms: The infinitive vs the supine

    Open Access•Adina Dragomirescu, Adrian Nicolae•ARTICLE•Diacronia•2016

This paper deals with two verbal forms which, despite being traditionally labelled as “non-finite”, display inflection/agreement. We will focus on the behaviour and origin of the inflected infinitive attested in Romance and in languages from other families, against which we analyse the novel inflected supine found in the north-eastern area where Romanian is spoken (comprising the Republic of Moldova, Ukraine and the north-eastern part of the Roma…

  • Are there Slavonic features in the syntax of Romanian? Two case studies

    Open Access•Adina Dragomirescu•ARTICLE•Diacronia•2015

The present paper discusses the issue of the Old Church Slavonic influence on the syntax of (old) Romanian. The starting point is the hypothesis that many of the syntactic features of Romanian previously explained by postulating the influence of (Old Church) Slavonic (especially in studies strongly influenced by ideological issues, published during the Communist period) are actually either regular transformations which occurred in the transition …

  • Există trăsături slavone în sintaxa limbii române? Două studii de caz

    Open Access•Adina Dragomirescu•ARTICLE•Diacronia•2015
