Sustainable Innovation in Wine Packaging
Wine packaging follows traditional norms favoring heavy glass bottles, paper labels, and cork closures. A recent innovation, wine in a can, challenges these perceptions. This paper reports results from three survey‐based studies eliciting consumers' attitudes towards this innovative packaging. First results show that consumers are unaware of the environmental benefits of canned wine and tend to perceive the traditional glass bottle as environment…

Who Produces Natural Wine (and Who Would Like To)
In a world where wine markets are losing ground, the natural wine segment appears healthy and growing, gaining an increasing acceptance among consumers, the media and within wineries product lines. This dynamic category is broadly understood as wine crafted from organic or biodynamic grapes, made with minimal cellar intervention and no additives, with the rare exception of small sulfite doses. However, despite its growth and relevance for rural e…
British consumer perspectives on terroir in cheese
Purpose This paper reports on a project looking at consumer perceptions of terroir in the UK, using cheese as a stimulus for the data collection. Design/methodology/approach Data collection was based on a consumer survey using a discrete choice experiment which included a number of cues to, and stories about, terroir. Analysis of preferences produced three latent classes with varying attitudes towards terroir cues for cheese. There was also an op…
Feelings and alcohol consumption
Consumption choices depend on the feelings experienced in the period preceding a consumer's decisions. We confirm this hypothesis using a large sample of Italian consumers collected by ISTAT (the Italian National Statistics Institute) as part of the multi-purpose survey “Indagine multiscopo sulle famiglie: Aspetti della vita quotidiana” (n = 114,052). Specifically, positive feelings are associated with wine and beer consumption, while negative fe…
Perspectives on user engagement of satellite Earth observation for water quality management
The management and governance of our surface waters is core to life and prosperity on our planet. However, monitoring data are not available to many potential users and the disparate nature of water bodies makes consistent monitoring across so many systems difficult. While satellite Earth observation (EO) offers solutions, there are numerous challenges that limit the use of satellite EO for water monitoring. To understand the perceptions of using…
