Archives and New Modes of Feminist Research
Paper, Materiality and the Archived Page
Digital technologies in the realm of archives has enlivened our understandings of archival materialities. However, the potential of paper and the page have largely been ignored. Paper, Materiality and Archived Page responds to this by setting out an approach to ‘thinking through paper’.
Afterword
This afterword takes up the ideas explored through the case studies and advances an argument for an expanded understanding of what literary papers are and can do. It suggests that the insights generated in the case studies via attention to the materiality of the page can be extended to form the basis of productive and novel ways of engaging with archived literary papers more generally. The afterword thus highlights the importance of developing an…

Work, Bodies and Boundaries: Talking Sexual Harassment in the New Economy
This article examines sexual harassment in the context of the new economy and highlights the manner in which the changing nature of work — and in particular the acknowledged rise of sexualized ‘body work’ — troubles conventional understandings of what constitutes sexual harassment in the workplace and the means to address it. Using data from a small‐scale qualitative study of service workers and professional employees, we explore the ways in whic…
Housework, Wages and Money: The Category of the Female Principal Breadwinner in Financial Capitalism
According to a range of authors and popular commentators, the post-Fordist socioeconomic order has produced a new category of female labourer, the 'female principal breadwinner'. This article opens out this category of worker to critical scrutiny. We suggest that while the very idea of the female principal breadwinner is open to all manner of existing lines of feminist critique, beyond this it forces a confrontation with a number of issues vital …

This article examines recent public debate in Australia around the question of paid maternity leave with specific reference to the way this policy has been mooted as a possible key to reversing or stabilizing Australia's declining birth-rate. The paid maternity leave debate is read against a set of debates that have unfolded concurrently but generally have been treated separately: those concerning access to assisted reproductive technologies, gay…

Culture Shocks: Feminism and Difference in the Classroom
Across the past two decades feminist movements world-wide have been responding to the question of cultural difference. Comfortable notions of universal sisterhood have increasingly given way to contingent alliances shaped by new understandings of difference, power, and pluralism. In extending some of the contemporary debates in cross-cultural feminism into the domain of teaching, this essay will explore how some of these debates are influencing t…
