  • Developing an Index for the Identification of Potential Public Open Spaces

    Open Access•María Laura Guerrero-Valarezo, Mónica Gabriela Naranjo-Serrano et al.•ARTICLE•Revista de Urbanismo•2026

Public Open Spaces (POS) are highly valuable urban assets that provide local communities with social, physical, psychological, and environmental benefits. Their spatial distribution is often uneven, disproportionately affecting low-income populations. This contribution proposes a multi-criteria index to identify potential locations for new POS that prioritize equity, applied to three cities in the Ecuadorian Andes. The results show that the highe…

  • Negotiating space

    Open Access•Lisseth Molina-Toledo, Sebastián Egas Loaiza et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Transport Geography•2025•References: 3

In many cities across Latin America, Africa, and South Asia, informal women waste pickers play a crucial role in managing recyclable waste, reducing municipal costs and urban carbon footprints.

This study explores the effect of the spatial configuration of street networks on movement patterns of users of a cycling monitoring app, employing crowdsourced information from OpenStreetMap and Strava Metro. Choice and Integration measures from Space Syntax were used to analyse the street network’s configuration for different radiuses. Multiple linear regression models were fitted to explore the influence of these measures on cycling activity a…
