University-based continuing education and mental health system change
Characteristics of clients, staff interventions, and the continuum of care
In two samples of over 200 consecutive referrals each from a psychiatric hospital to community agencies, client characteristics were generally unrelated to referral success but three staff interventions were related to completing referrals. It was concluded that known interventions are stronger predictors of successful referrals than patient characteristics. Staff telephone contacts with ethnic minorities were more successful in effecting referra…

The major explanations concern the ambivalence of…

Birth Order and Need for Achievement
Since first-borns exceed later-borns in academic achievement and IQ does not differ systematically, one may test the hypothesis that first-borns have higher need achievement than later-borns. Various measures of need achievement were used with three separate samples of adults. The hypothesis was not supported

A Forced Choice Form of the F Scale-Free of Acquiescent Response Set
To eliminate acquiescence from the measurement of authoritarianism, forced choice forms (FC) of the original F scale (F+) were administered to two samples of college students. The correlations between FC and F+ ranged from .69 to .83, with reliabilities of .41 to .71. The FC forms also correlated higher with negatively worded scales (.42 to .72) than did the latter with F+ (.34 to .48). A short form with a reliability of .58 and .77 correlation w…
