From Inclusive Research to Inclusive Evaluation
This article explores how people with intellectual disabilities can be more involved in evaluating and regulating the services they use and the quality of their lives. Traditionally, these evaluations have been performed by professionals, but we argue that people with lived experience of intellectual disabilities bring unique insights and should be part of the process. The idea builds on ‘inclusive research’, where people with intellectual disabi…

Period-tracking applications (apps) allow users the ability to track their menstrual cycles and use algorithms which predict users future cycles. This study seeks to understand Irish users' experiences of, and reasons for, using period-tracking apps. This study identified their reason…
Intellectual disability, art and identity
Previous research suggests that participation in the arts and/or disability arts can positively influence individuals’ affirmation, or a positive embracement, of a disability identity; however, until more recently, persons with intellectual disabilities have not been included in this research to the same extent as their peers with physical or sensory disabilities. This article contributes to the increasing empirical consideration of intellectual …

Journeys from discomfort to comfort
From 2016-17, academics at a leading Irish university collaborated with a group of self- advocates with intellectual disabilities to co-design, co-deliver, and co-assess an entire disability module for third-year undergraduate social work students. There are few, if any, reports of university modules of this type, involving adults with intellectual disabilities, in the existing literature. Alongside and after the module, our group of academics an…

The authors used thematic analysis to critically review minutes, workshop presentations …

A Catalyst-for-Change Approach to Evaluation Capacity Building
Evaluation capacity building (ECB) has become a popular approach for helping community-based organizations (CBOs) to meet their funders’ demands for accountability. This case study reports the ECB process with one staff member using a catalyst-for-change approach. The authors analyzed the role of the catalyst in diffusing evaluation knowledge and skills and in promoting evaluation mainstreaming and use within the CBO; and the outcomes achieved as…
