  • Building Resilient Futures in the Virtual Everyday

Open Access•Julian Gopffarth, Rebecca Jablonsky et al.•ARTICLE•Ethnographic Praxis in Industry…•2022•Cited by: 1•References: 22

Virtual worlds have been central to an imagined future in which advances in technology propel new social practices. The recent focus within the technology industry on the "metaverse" is the latest iteration of imagined, utopian virtual worlds which have continually surfaced in literature, film, product development, and more since the 1960s. • Spiritualizing reason, rationalizing spirit

    Open Access•Julian Gopffarth, Esra Özyürek•ARTICLE•Ethnicities•2021•Cited by: 1•References: 38

Muslim, ex-Muslim as well as converted Muslim intellectuals are increasingly prominent figures in the West European far-right movement. • Activating the socialist past for a nativist future

    Julian Gopffarth•ARTICLE•Social movement studies•2021•Cited by: 7•References: 37

Yet, recent research has shown that it is often wealthy areas that vote for the German populist far-right AfD. Drawing on nationalism, memory-studies and social-movement literature, this article examines how nostalgia drives the activism of well-off local intellectual …

  • Rethinking the German nation as German Dasein

    Julian Gopffarth•ARTICLE•Journal of Political Ideologies•2020•Cited by: 15•References: 13

Most scholarship on far-right parties focuses on populism while largely ignoring the role of intellectualism. Disregarding the increasing support by well-educated voters, much of this literature appears to presume that populism and intellectualism in the far-right are separate rather than complementary phenomena. Against this view, this article uses Skinner’s concept of ‘innovating ideologists’ to explore the role of Heideggerian philosophy in th…
