Open Access•Emily Deans, George Economidis et al.•ARTICLE•Evaluation and Program Planning•2025

INTRODUCTION: The non-profit sector contributes significantly to preventing and reducing harm from alcohol and other drugs (AOD). • A mixed methods evaluation of an alcohol and other drug psychoeducation program for clients with complex support needs

Open Access•Emily Deans, Wing See Yuen et al.•ARTICLE•Evaluation and Program Planning•2025

BACKGROUND: Clients with co-occurring and complex needs represent an important segment of the alcohol and other drug (AOD) treatment population. • Engaging and retaining clients in AOD treatment

Open Access•Emily Deans, Jioji Ravulo et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Youth Studies•2024•References: 4

Finding ways to engage and retain young people in treatment for substance use is important in disrupting trajectories of dependence and long-term addiction. • A qualitative study exploring young offenders’ perspectives on alcohol and other drug health promotion

Open Access•Emily Deans, Jioji Ravulo et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2022

Community services have an integral role in ensuring drug and alcohol education is accessible for different youth populations. Importantly, health promotion organisations should raise awareness about the environmental influences on drug use behaviours, and work deliberately to include consumer perspectives in the design and planning of prevention and harm reduction strategies

  • The role of peer influences on the normalisation of sports wagering

Emily G Deans, Emily Deans et al.•ARTICLE•Addiction Research & Theory•2016

Sports wagering has been identified as a gambling product which may pose particular risks for young men, because of the aggressive marketing tactics used to promote these products, and the alignment with culturally valued sporting activities. However, there is very limited information about the socio-cultural processes that may contribute to the normalisation of sports wagering for this population. Using semi-structured interviews with 50 Austral…

  • Creating symbolic cultures of consumption

Open Access•Emily G Deans, Emily Deans et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2016

This research suggests that the appeal strategies used by the sports wagering industry are similar to those strategies adopted by other unhealthy commodity industries. With respect to gambling, analysis revealed that strategies are clearly targeted to young male sports fans. Researchers and public health practitioners should seek to better understand the impact of marketing on the normalisation of sports wagering for this audience segment, and im…

The archaeological site at Raqchi is best known for the large Inka building identified by colonial sources as the "temple of Viracocha." The site also has an enclosure with 152 circular buildings that have previously been interpreted as Inka state storage: collcas. Although Inka pottery was found within some structures, the utilitarian pottery, carbonized plant remains, and hearths found on the floors of the buildings at Raqchi date their constru…
