  • Stakeholder Experiences in Participatory Mental Health Model Development

    Open Access•Maartje Vriens, H A Valkenburg et al.•ARTICLE•Health Expectations•2026

  • System dynamics modelling methods for public health policy evaluation

    Open Access•H A Valkenburg, Hendrika J Valkenburg et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2026

SD models are increasingly developed for NCDs and lifestyle-related risk factors, and particularly applied to mental health and substance use disorders. This review offers insights into applied techniques for developing SD models for mental health and substance use disorders, and shows that steps of the modelling cycle are reported on with considerable variation. Although studies frequently report on certain aspects of testing and validation, man…

  • Cost Effectiveness and Budget Impact of the Boston University Approach to Psychiatric Rehabilitation for Increasing the Social Participation of Individuals With Severe Mental Illnesses

Open Access•Sarita Sanches, Sarita A Sanches et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2022

This was the first study to investigate BPR cost-effectiveness and budget impact. The results showed that BPR was not cost-effective compared to ACC. When interpreting the results, one must keep in mind that the cost-effectiveness of BPR was investigated in the area of social participation, while BPR was designed to offer support in all rehabilitation areas. Therefore, more studies are needed before definite conclusions can be drawn on the cost-e…

  • More than cost‐effectiveness? Applying a second‐stage filter to improve policy decision making

Open Access•Kaying Kan, Frederike Jörg et al.•ARTICLE•Health Expectations•2021

BACKGROUND: Apart from cost-effectiveness, considerations like equity and acceptability may affect health-care priority setting. Preferably, priority setting combines evidence evaluation with an appraisal procedure, to elicit and weigh these considerations. OBJECTIVE: To demonstrate a structured approach for eliciting and evaluating a broad range of assessment criteria, including key stakeholders' values, aiming to support decision makers in prio…

  • Mapping chronic disease prevalence based on medication use and socio-demographic variables

    Open Access•Koen Füssenich, H C Boshuizen et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2021

Adding medication use as an indicator of disease prevalence next to socio-economic variables substantially improved estimates at the municipality level. The resulting individual disease probabilities could be aggregated into any desired regional level and provide a useful tool to identify regional patterns and inform local policy

  • Episode detection based on personalized intensity of care thresholds

    Open Access•Stefan R A Koning, Richard Bruggeman et al.•ARTICLE•Social Science & Medicine•2021•Referencias: 14

The repeated application of EWMA control charts based on healthcare-intensity is a feasible and promising tool for quantifying patient-level healthcare episodes. The validation using GAF scores indicates that our episode indicator is associated with lower levels of global functioning. Results for individuals without hospitalizations indicate that the method is robust with regard to changes in healthcare policy

  • Informing policy makers on the efficiency of population level tobacco control interventions in Asia

Open Access•Ariuntuya Tuvdendorj, Yihui Du et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Global Health•2020

  • Effectiveness of the Boston University Approach to Psychiatric Rehabilitation in Improving Social Participation in People With Severe Mental Illnesses

Open Access•Sarita Sanches, Sarita A Sanches et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2020

While ACC was as effective as BPR in improving the social participation of individuals with SMIs, much higher percentages of participants in our sample found (paid) work or other meaningful activities than in observational studies without specific support for social participation. This suggests that focused rehabilitation efforts are beneficial, irrespective of the specific methodology used

  • Long-term health outcomes and cost-effectiveness of a computer-tailored physical activity intervention among people aged over fifty

    Open Access•Denise A Peels, Rudolf R Hoogenveen et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2014

The current study was registered at the Dutch Trial Register (NTR2297; April 26th 2010)
