  • The origin of the raised pelecypod beds along the Mediterranean coast of Israel

    Abraham Ronen•ARTICLE•Paléorient•1980•Cited by: 2

Thick beds of marine shell are found along the littoral of Israel above present sea level. Thought to be natural beach deposits and dated to the Middle Ages, they were taken to indicate considerable down-and up warping of the entire littoral within the last centuries. However, test pits in the Ashqelon "raised beach" show that this huge shell accumulation - 60 x 5 x 1.5 m - is a stratified man-made structure dated to the 6th century AD. Experimen…

  • Erosion and Artifact Distribution in Open-Air Epi-Palaeolithic Sites on the Coastal Plain of Israel

Catherine Fuchs, D Kaufman et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Field Archaeology•1977

Statistical analyses are used to test an hypothesis relating erosion and rain wash to the distribution of artifacts at open-air, Epi-Palaeolithic sites in Israel. The analyses are based on data from three sites located on the coastal plain

  • Transition From Mousterian to Perigordian

Louis Pradel, Franck Bourdier et al.•ARTICLE•Current Anthropology•1966•Cited by: 9•References: 4

At the terminal period of the Mousterian, the Upper Palaeolithic artifacts became more abundant in a number of beds. Some deposits present a tool assemblage dominated by small, odd, worn flakes, more or less denticulated either intentionally, through wear, or because of geological phenomenon. ost horizons, however, are marked by polymorphism and are evidence of a trend towards the longer blade. At the Audi rock-shelter, we find that the heavy Mou…

Discus…
