  • Corporate responsibility for less income inequality

    Georges Enderlé•ARTICLE•Review of Social Economy•2018•References: 38

This article explores corporate responsibility for less income inequality within the boundaries of the organization and with regard to society at large. Instead of examining the entire range of income distribution, the focus is on the lower and upper ends. The ‘floor’ is defined as a living wage, supported by strong economic and ethical arguments and proposed as a minimal income standard that can – and thus should – be implemented by companies. A…

  • China, Business Ethics In

Open Access•Georges Enderlé, Xiaohe Lu•CHAPTER•Wiley Encyclopedia of Management•2015

Business ethics faces a vast array of daunting challenges in China. Because of the country's size and the pace of change, developing business ethics in China is a highly complex task. The approach must be comprehensive as well as differentiated. To focus solely on what individuals and organizations can and should do does not suffice; and to deal only with questions of the economic system is not sufficient either. Instead, business ethics in China…

  • The Ethics of Conviction Versus the Ethics of Responsibility: A False Antithesis for Business Ethics

    Open Access•Georges Enderlé•ARTICLE•Journal of Human Values•2007•Cited by: 2•References: 6

In his famous lecture on 'Politics as a Vocation', Max Weber coined and elaborated on the antithesis between the ethics of conviction and the ethics of responsibility, which has had a far-reaching impact on the ethics discussions, particularly in German-speaking countries. The article explores what Weber himself meant with this distinction and what implications result from it. As an interesting historical observation, Weber's interpretation of 'D…

    Open Access•Georges Enderlé•ARTICLE•Business Ethics Quarterly•2000

The discussion of the global economy and worldwide expansion of the capitalist and market economic system barely deals with the topic of public goods, although they are of paramount importance precisely in this international setting. Fortunately, the theory of public economics systematically developed the central concept of the public good with its far-reaching implications so that this knowledge can be applied also to global issues. In order to …

  • A Framework for International Marketing Ethics: Preliminary Considerations and Emerging Perspectives

    Open Access•Georges Enderlé•ARTICLE•Journal of Human Values•1998

Globalization is a major challenge not only for marketing, but also for marketing ethics. Is it possible to delineate a conceptual framework that helps identify some major issues in this unchartered field? This paper assumes that the development of such a framework needs both serious reflection on the very concept of marketing and a thorough exploration of universal ethical values. Among a number of competing concepts of marketing, those concepts…
