  • Nonlinear associations of birth weight and gestational age with initial newborn hearing screening referral in a large Chinese neonatal cohort

    Open Access•Xiaozhe Yang, X L Yang et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2026

Background The potential risk factors for concurrent newborn hearing screening and genetic screening remain unclear, posing challenges to the prevention of hearing loss. Although gestational age and birth weight are known to influence hearing development, their associations with newborn hearing screening referral remain controversial due to limited large-scale validation. Methods This retrospective population-based cohort study included 76,460 ne…

  • Equity in national healthcare economic evaluation guidelines

    Open Access•Tuba Saygın Avşar, Xiaozhe Yang et al.•ARTICLE•Social Science & Medicine•2024•Cited by: 1•References: 34

Equity is given less attention than efficiency in HEE guidelines. This indicates that HTA agencies while subscribing to an extra-welfarist approach have a narrow evaluative space - focusing on maximising health and not considering the opportunity cost of the equity constraint. The omission of equity and the lack of systematic approaches in guidelines poses a threat to the international endeavours to reduce inequities. It is timely for HTA agencie…

  • Understanding Teacher Learning Through Teacher-Created Knowledge Products and Transactions

    Open Access•Xiaozhe Yang, Pei-Yu Cheng et al.•ARTICLE•SAGE Open•2021•References: 55

Mutual learning between teachers and their colleagues plays a vital role in their professional growth. However, previous studies show that collaborative teacher learning tends to be confined to small groups, and that it is difficult to make it explicit, showcase, or transfer teachers' tacit knowledge. This study explores this problem by creating a digital system that allows teachers to create, display, and trade their knowledge products; 508 teac…

Particulate matter (PM) such as ultrafine particulate matter (UFP) and the organic compound pollutants such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) are widespread in the environment. UFP and PAH are present in the air, and their presence may enhance their individual adverse effects on human health. However, the mechanism and effect of their combined interactions on human cells are not well understood. We investigated the combined toxicity of sil…
